I'm having problems with my breathing. I don't smoke, I haven't got asthma and I'm healthy, yet I can't breath properly. I can't even walk 5 minutes up the shop without getting out of breath! I am making an appointment to the doc's soon but I just wanted to ask what you lot think it could be.

I do exercise quite a lot and I'm not stressed.

I am not overweight. I have lost a lot of weight lately so I am actually underweight apparantly.

I'm 17. I did smoke for a while on and off between the ages of 14-16 but was never addicted. I don't smoke at all now but I am around smokers sometimes. There is also no history of heart or lung problems in my family (although most of them smoke anyway).

Glad to hear you have an appointment to see your doctor. Breathing problems can be attributed to heart problems as well as several lung problems, asthma is only one of those. Best of luck!

The cause may be numerous and you are right to go and see the doctor so you are sure of a correct diagnosis and help and support if necessary.

I have the same problem as well and I am off to see me doctor again. My is a heart related problem, but yours could be that you are unfit and need daily exercise to keep you fit. I try and walk 2 miles a day even though I have problem with breathing.

All the best and try not to worry as this will only make you more breathless. Are you overweight ...weight can also be a factor.

It could be seasonal allergies. I just got back from fishing at my local lake and I had to leave early cause I could not breathe. I have not really had allergy problems before they have just begun in the past 2 or 3 years. I get awfully short of breath--like I cant get a breath at all when all the trees are blooming. Where do you live? Check and see what is currently blooming as that may help. It is elm and cedar here in arkansas along with pear and plum.

You do not give your age, your full past history, the duration of your current symptoms or your smoking history, so any comments would of course be pure conjecture. You could re-post including this info, which would help.

Breathlessness can be either cardiac or respiratory. Heart failure or cardiomyopathy or a rhythm defect would be cardiac causes. Asthma, tumour, pneumothorax or infection would be respiratory. Profound anaemia would affect your bloods ability to carry oxygen which would affect heart and lungs.

I am afraid with the lack of history, the options are little more than a list of possibilities. See you GP as soon as practical!

in the experience that your missus has no longer viewed a Dr how have you ever come to the top she is "having" pneumonia. in case you rather have faith she is stricken by pneumonia then the only direction of action may well be to confirm a Dr. Pneumonia can kill if left untreated. talk some experience into her!!!
