Of course! A pap smear isn't only to find STDs...you could have cancer or other problems as well.

All women who are or who have been sexually active, or who have reached age 21, should have an annual Pap smear. It is your best tool to detect pre-cancerous conditions and hidden, small tumors that may lead to cervical cancer. If detected early, cervical cancer can be cured.

Also, a pelvic exam is a way for doctors to look for signs of illness in certain organs in a woman's body. The word "pelvic" refers to the pelvis. The exam is used to look at a woman's:

Vulva (external genital organs)
Uterus (the womb)
Cervix (opening from the vagina to the uterus)
Fallopian tubes (tubes that carry eggs to the womb)
Ovaries (organs that produce eggs)
Bladder (the sac that holds urine)
Rectum (the chamber that connects the colon to the anus)

The purpose of having a yearly pap smear isn't to control STDs...it is for the purpose of diagnosing cervical cancer, and checking your uterus for tumors and ovaries for size and shape and abnormalities. Being married has nothing to do with the pap smear per se...it is part of your yearly health checkup, as should be breast self examination

Yes. The pap smear is used to detect cancers like cervical cancer which if detected early can be treated. If you don't get your check up, bad things can go for years without being detected and that can put you at risk for cancer.

Pap smear are neccesary because they are not only used in diagnosing STD's , its also used to diagnose cervical & uterine cancer. You should have a pap test annually until menopause then every 2 year thereafter unless your GYN doctor doesnt think its neccesary to continue.

A Pap test is for the purpose of determining changes in the cervix that could signal cancer. Cancer occurs whether you are married or not so you definitely need this testing.

Yes! Papsmears are not only to check for STDs - its to prevent cervical and uterine cancer and any other female reproduction problems. Its probably not necessary to go in every year, but at least every other year.
