chickens and turkeys are the most mistreated animals on the planet. Yes, you are eating healthier by avoiding the other meats, but there are far better sources of protein than poultry. If you have issues with cruelty to other animals, why is poultry okay? There is certainly no issue with overpopulation! When you drive down your street, do you see chickens running wild everywhere? I live in a rural country community, and I can't recall the last time I saw a chicken running wild. They are being overpopulated on poultry farms by overbreeding using growth hormones and forced molting. If you want to continue to eat poultry, by all means do so, but don't think you are doing the planet a favor by consuming it to control the population. If you want to give it up, do some research-learn why its a good choice to not eat it, not just from the animal cruelty aspect, but the unsanitary meat. If you read the label on raw chicken, it say "enhanced with up to 18 percent solution" That solution contains bleach, peroxide, and other antimicrobials because the meat is unsanitary, and contains fecal matter, growth hormones, antibiotics, steroids, etc. If you eat it, you are eating all that other nasty stuff too.

What do you think they'll do with their new-found rights? Eat and kill grass or other plants. Don't they have rights, they feel pain too. In this world we have to live by what's called a food chain, use it. Sorry if I got off the point. Meat is for protein. Chicken and turkey are OK. Fish is good and it also contains some oils that we need. Beef and other meats also contain bad cholesterol. But your body can remove it with good cholesterol. Exercise helps good cholesterol, and if your really worried about cholesterol sprinkle garlic powder on your food. (too much bad cholesterol causes high blood pressure and clogs your heart).

Chickens are over populating? Where did you get this information? Why does a chicken not get the same rights as a cow or pig?

Whole grains, beans and nuts are easy proteins. Regardless of that..all foods have some protein..even veggies.

Why are you asking this in the vegetarian section?

From a health standpoint... maybe. Maybe it has a bit less fat, a bit less cholesterol, but it's still not so good for you. And you CERTAINLY don't need meat to get protein.

From a moral standpoint... eating birds and marine life causes no less suffering than eating mammals.

yeah, turkey and chicken are healthier than most other meats, but if you want to try some other great sources of protein try eating fish.
