If you like a sweet spread, mash a banana and sprinkle with a little honey. this is marvellous and has great nutrition benefits. Should you prefer a savoury spread, there is a spread I make that I learned from my Polish Mother. You take a quantity of tomatoes that are ripe, an aubergine, a ripe bell pepper and an onion. Chop the vegetables into fine dice. Saute the ingredients in a little vegetable oil, peanut oil is great, and continue to cook down the chopped vegetables till they have mellowed the flavour and the hard vegetables have softened. Season with sea salt and pepper to your liking. Then either serve hot spread on toast or cold is good too on bread or bread rolls. Hope you enjoy my suggestions.
Cheers,
Lisa

Hummus and all the wonderful flavors you can get it in...
(I am currently enjoying some Trader Joe's Tomato and Basil)
My other fav's are peanut butter (not really low fat, but... it's tasty!) with cinnamon, avocado and banana's.
Earth Balance is a great butter substitute and why not try all the other nut butters out there (almond, cashew, etc.)

If they're in season Avocados make nice spreads. Plus they have good fats which help with the heart and lower bad cholesterol.

try using mascarpone cheese on your toast or bagel. It is creamy like butter and has a slight buttery flavor. It is simply delightful.
