It can be difficult depending on the person.
The fat and grease within meat are addictive substances.

Hopefully this will help give you an idea on how to make a transition if you or someone you know was wanting to stop eating meat.

When we crave meat, it is often the savory-ness and the fat. So cook something heavy in oil on a day when you crave it. I will make a fake burger in oil, season with onion powder, garlic powder, pepper and add some barbecue sauce and veganaise (fake-mayo). It give me all the flavor and fat I wanted.

It wasn't hard for me to stop eating meat, but I admit that during the first weeks there were some days that I wanted to eat some, specially when you live with 3 more people that are meat eaters. The main reason I became vegetarian is because of animal rights, besides all the health benefits it has, so just to think in all the crap that animal products have and all the suffering an animal has to go through just for you to have a steak in your table, believe me, makes me even more sure of my decision.

I'm a VERY new vegetarian, going into my second week! I didn't eat much meat to begin with, so I didn't think I would have a very hard time, but I'm already struggling a bit. I miss Chinese Food and White Castle the most! Oh, also it's really annoying when you are the only vegetarian in your family and everyone complains that you make going to dinner difficult! lol!

I had to give up meat due to a protein allergy. I missed it alot at first, but after educating myself about meat, not just the animal cruelty issue, but the unsanitary practices in meat processing plants, and the impact the meat industry has on our environment, I decided meat is simply not worth the suffering it causes on many fronts, and I no longer miss is at all-in fact I am repulsed by it. I can't walk past the meat counter without gagging now

If you want to stop eating meat, think of this:
Every time you eat meat, you are also eating every thing the animal ate, which is excrements, urine, mud, food, some leftovers of anything in the dirt, among other things. You should also remember that animals carry diseases (their owners don't take good care of them as when their child is sick) and contain toxic chemicals that owners usually use for growth promotion. You want to eat all that?

As for the cravings, there are some substitutes for hamburger, winnies, sausage, chorizo, etc. You can find them in the frozen area under frozen meat, the brand name is Boca. Although I'm sure there are many brands depending on your area. You can also buy soy.

Another option is to look for vegetarian recipes so you don't worry about what to cook w/o meat.

Eventually with time you will stop thinking about that hamburger, baked chicken, fajitas, etc.....E.g. VegWeb.com

it was not hard for me to give up meat when i became a vegetarian. i think it's like any change you decide to make in life (like quitting smoking)--when you are serious about it and have good reasons for doing it, the willpower and commitment will be there.

i have only been a vegetarian for 5 weeks and i admit that i do have some small cravings. i can satisfy these cravings with meatless products. i especially like the boca chik'n patties and black bean burgers.

i am working toward becoming a vegan but i realize it will take some research and preparation since so many products have milk, egg, and other animal-derived ingredients in them.

Not eating meat wasnt hard for me. Its not eating milk or butter or other animal probucts thats hard for me[i'm vegan]. Sometimes there is a craving to eat meat but then i just remember how the meat got to where it is. Like how there killed the cow, pig, fish, ect. I have had slip ups, everyone probaly has.

No, it wasn't difficult at all.

I stopped eating meat, fish, eggs and all the rest of it right away once I became aware of what it is that I became aware of.

I never desire to eat meat, although sometimes I do envy meat-eaters in that they don't have to concern themselves about eating "the right stuff" when they go out. Nevertheless, I've never thought about going back to eating meat.

no not really, I have been veggy for twenty years used to like the smell of bacon frying, but now I cook bacon and burgers for my son and do not feel any urge for a bacon butty.

P.S I hate parents who are vegetarian forcing there children to do the same
