According to the FDA, it can't be marketed as a "sweetener" (ridiculous, huh?I wonder if the big artificial sweetener industries had any say in this), but as a dietary supplement. I have wished there were soft drinks with it instead of Splenda or Aspartame. But I have not seen one, and I live in an area where there are health food and herb stores everywhere. So I make my own. Lemon juice and water with stevia. Hot chocolate. Herbal teas (think spicy exotic herbs like cinnamon, vanilla, or cacao). Cranberry juice, unsweetened, with water and stevia added, makes a great cleansing tonic. This herb is great; it actually balances blood sugar levels. Hopefully, it will be able to be sold as a sweetener in beverages soon.

I have purchased it in liquid and powder form from a health food store, it is very concentrated so a little goes along way, it is reputed to be 3X sweeter than cane sugar.

I will someday be used in place of aspartame and Splenda, it just has not caught on, it can be grown anywhere and is alot easier to manage, and it has no glucides and is lower in carbs than sugar and the artifical sweeters.

It is like anything new, but is not really new, it was used in Ancient Rome and Greece as a medicinal state, and has been around for centurys, just never really utilize to its full potenial.

stevia is easily grown in your own back yard. it can be found at most garden centers. i grew one last summer and all i had to do was water it some. it outgrew most of my other plants and flowers. and it is very much sweeter than sugar. tastes like saccharin though. i dont know of any drinks that contain it but it is so easy to grow yourself i think you should check into it. and add it to your own drinks as you wish.
