Hey, dude. Unless you were eating beans the night before (!) , that is not something to fool around with. It may be part of a blood clot, or an infection of the lungs or throat. Get an appointment and go see an ENT specialist (ears, nose & throat), or an internist, or just your general practitioner. He can give you a couple of tests, and check you out to be sure it is not something more serious.

Probably some goo that slowly built up. We all have "flora" in our noses. You might need to reset the environment in there. :)
Try a saline nasal RINSE (not a spray) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean). I've been doing it at work too.

The buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot. The special bottle and salt is about $20.

You can do this a often as you like with no bad side effects.

You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. So if you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis. (I put in a link for “what” and “how” – there’s also some good info on wiki)

You coughed up a petrified pustule pod from stuff that has been putrifying in a pocket near your tonsils. I'm serious. It's a leftover by-product from having a really bad sore throat or getting food stuck in your tonsils. Smells like crap? You won't have really bad breath now that it is gone. Remember to gargle as part of your daily routine, even if it is with mild salted water. It is not a disease. But you can check with your Doc, and see if you need to get your tonsils out. Don't freak.

Guess what, time to make an appointment to see your MD. That was either a hunk of decaying tissue, thus the wonderful aroma or your developing a sinus infection. Which ever one it might be you still need to talk to the doc about it and have him/her check you out. Good luck.
