I am having a Southern Living Party and I have no idea how I should decorate the sheet cake that my mom wants us to make. Can someone please help me with an idea or two?

if I had to do it I would make a killer cream cheese frosting then decorate the cake with fresh strawberries, blue berries & raspberries all around and then some eddible flowers. Why? cause I think it will look colorfull, vibrant & fresh, for me that what Southern Living is all about. I ive in Florida andI embrece it every day.

I'm a firm believer in the use of fresh flowers and leaves for cake decorating myself. It's classy, understated, and elegant. Perhaps you can find out what the state flowers are, colors, etc. and pick a few varieties of flowers (edible, or non-toxic please) to use on your cake. Also, when I think of Southern Living, I think of baskets and flowers along with sweet tea and fried chicken. How about doing a basketweave around the cake. Your flowers would be appropriate then in the "basket". Have fun!

You could use a buttercream Icing to ice the cake smooth and place chocolate covered fruit (such as strawberries or cherries) on top. You could also sugar coat some grapes.

Sugar coated Grapes:
(If you're worried about uncooked eggs, don't eat these)

Egg Whites
Sugar

Beat egg whites in a bowl. Pour sugar into another bowl. Dip grapes into the bowl ow egg whites and lift up to let excess egg drip off. Then place the grapes in the until they are covered well with sugar.

You could also pipe a border of icing on the bottom of the cake.

How about drawing the southern half of the USA on the cake?

The real southern cake is red velvet. But you must use cream cheese.
This recipe is a spring red velvet with berries.

hi, try real flowers ,you should be able to get them at any flower shop they can show you all types of safe and etable flowers, you could do a buquet to one end of the cake then scatter smaller flowers in a non uniform pattern flowing to the other end of the cake, use small ones to edge your cake -top edge and bottom edge, make sure to use the leaves to,dont remove them from your flowers -on the display plate scatter rose pedals all around the cake,tip-use frosting to make pedals stay in place ,you will be suprised how easy ,quick and beautiful it will be ,at laest try one use your creative talents. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re-create the cake form one of the Christmas Covers (Dec issues), and have the magazine next to your cake on the SLAH wire book stand. Use an SLAH cake stand or plate if you have one.

I live in Florida, and a cake theme/ dessert theme here is key lime pie, even though it is not a cake, everyone knows it is from the south!
