I would make chiska-bobs(spelling??) on the grill. Make some with chicken, some with beef. Make salads on the side. Here is one that whenever I make, it goes SOOOO fast and I always get asked for the recipe. It's the best taco salad you'll ever have, and it's so easy to make

1 lb. ground beef
1 package of taco seasoning
1 head of lettuce
5-6 plum tomatoes
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 bag of regular cheese doritos
1 16 oz. bottle of Catalina dressing

Cook the beef and make per seasoning packet directions. Put in the fridge to chill. Get a very big bowl: make 3 layers of lettuce, then sliced tomatoes, then cheese, then ground beef. After you've used all those ingredients, get the doritos and crunch and smash em in the bag until they're small peices.

With your hands, only way to mix well, mix in the doritos and dressing, making sure to coat all of it with the dressing.

It is an awesome salad that kids love as well. It serves 20 and it can only be eaten fresh. You don't want to save it or make it early.

Now this is my opinion.....but I think a luau is more for older kids than a baby. Usually at the age of 1, they are not into luau....they don't know what that is.....at one they are into tele tubbies, sesame street, colorful things such as that......remember this party id for you DAUGHTER not you, and not what you will look like to your neighbors.....do something that she understands and save the luau until she is in 1,2,3 grade.

I'd go with fruit and healthy finger foods.

I don't usually let my daughter, who's 3, eat a lot of sugar or sweets. So I sometimes dread b-day parties because I know she'll be getting a ton of it.

Some of her favorite snacks include:

grapes, 100% natural applesauce, mandarin oranges
sugar free brownies, sugar free popsicles, etc.

As long as the finger foods are FUN to play with and eat then they'll dig em.

How about jello jigglers cut into a flower with a cookie cutter?

Try serving Hawaiian bread with a mango jelly. Serve with pineapple tidbits. Banana bread is usually served at Luau's. Chicken or Pork fried rice would be nice if you are serving lunch or dinner.

well congrats on your first year with your daughter! my first daughters bday was really for the adults. since i knew she loved lasagna (chopped up) i decided that i'd make that. cater to what you and the adults want. she's going to eat everything cut up anyway. dont do hotdogs, those are so processed and a choking hazard. (unless you go kosher, that's always good). maybe you could cook outside, make chicken and pinapple kabobs. or shredded pork sandwiches. ive been to hawaii and truthfully the food was not that special. and everywhere i went SPAM was on the menu.YICK! so just make what you like! have fun!

Kid friendly foods could be chicken nuggets, fruit, mac and cheese or you could do chips and little finger sandwiches (chicken salad for the adults and PB&J for the kids)
