I hope you've gone to the doctor already. You probably have a bladder infection (a type of urinary tract infection or UTI). A UTI is not a sexually transmitted disease. It is actually very common in women because the urethra (tube that urine passes through from the bladder to the outside) is short and it's opening is near the vaginal and anal openings. A bladder infection is not serious if treated early with antibiotics. Make sure you take all of your prescription according to instructions, so you kill all the bacteria, otherwise the infection might recur and become resistant to the antibiotics. If untreated, a bladder infection can spread to the kidneys. Kidney infections ARE serious and can cause permanent damage to your kidneys or a blood infection. You should call your doctor immediately if you have nausea, vomiting, fever, chills, or pain in one side your back under your ribs (where your kidneys are located). These are signs of kidney infection.

If you are unable to get a doctor's appointment right away, try taking Azo, or something similar. It won't make the infection go away. It only treats the symptoms, like pain and the urge to urinate often. But it can help you feel better until you are able to get to the doctor. Just don't put off going to the doctor. Get treatment as soon as possible.

For the future:

Sex can cause bacteria to travel up the urethra to infect the bladder. Urinating after sex is helpful in flushing any bacteria out before they can cause an infection.

Also, cleaning "down there" after using the toilet or bathing/showering can accidently cause an infection if you do it wrong. Wipe front to back, and try not to splash cleanser or water into the urinary/vaginal area. Try not to overclean ( or use douches/hygiene sprays), as your body has it's own natural cleaning system and you could upset the biological balance of that area. Avoiding overcleaning can help prevent yeast infections, too.

Make sure you change sanitary pads often during "that time of the month."

Also, drinking cranberry juice regularly can prevent UTIs, but many "cranberry juices" have very little cranberry in them. They probably have a lot of sugar, too, which can encourage bacterial growth. Try to get pure cranberry juice, it's pretty tart, but it helps to put an equal amount of water in it to dilute it. If you can't stand drinking cranberry juice, blueberry juice or cranberry pills may be better. I've read that blueberries have the same benefit for keeping bacteria from sticking to the walls of the urinary tract.

I hope this helps you.

You may be experiencing a bladder infection or an urinary tract infection. They both carry similar symptoms.I do know from experience that the bladder infection can be caused by really rough sex.I was given heads up on this one from my aunt and she's a nurse.Cranberry juice will help you a little. Just try to drink some on a regular basis.

You definately have a uninary tract infection!! I've had it a couple times and its not pretty :(

The first time I let it go for awhile not realizing I needed treatment and it started to affect my bladder control! (Ie - I had to run or I'd miss the toilet lol)

This is usually caused by too much of the same position in sex - especially missionary style. BUT I've also had it creep up on me from not properly covering up my parts in the cold. (I would wear a skirt out to the bar or work in the winter time without any pantyhose! Bad... lol)

If you go to see the doctor they can give you some antibiotics to clear up the infection (its a pretty common thing for women of all ages).

To prevent in the future you might want to drink cranberry juice. I'm not sure why this works but it does - I know some women who even take herbal cranberry pills to prevent UTI (urinary tract infection!)

either way - ouch, I feel your pain girl! Its not pretty :(

I had that problem once and yes it got infected, drink lots of water more than 8 glasses per day and drink lots of cranberry juice. Try not to drink as much soda or else it'll get worse. It may be somewhat of a kidney failure. I lay in bed for weeks because I didn't listen to the doctor at all.

Yes - you probably have a bladder infection. Drink lots of water and cranberry juice to flush it out. If you do not get relief within a day, go to the dr - you will need antibiotics.

You could either have a bladder infection or a urinary tract infection, both would cause the pain you're experiencing. Please go to a doctor and get some antibiotics along with some painkillers. They will make your urine crazy colors so it will be kind of entertaining aside from all of the pain.

Sounds unhealthy, it's best to get it checked by your doctor. Many people suggest drinking a lot of cranberry juice, which is helpful. But in my personal experience, bladder infections and urinary tract infections are so painful and unpleasant; they are one of the few infections that I will gladly take antibiotics to get over. Good luck!

You need to have a urinalysis--then a round of Bactrim, a sulfa drug. You'll be okay in no time. Of course, you have to see a doctor to do this. Since it's Saturday, if you have a regular physician, call him and maybe he'll call in a prescription to the pharmacy without a urinalysis. If you don't, go to one of those quick care clinics rather than to an ER. They're much more reasonable. Oh, and drink lots of water. Good luck.
