Go to the health food store or the freezer isle of your local grocery store and buy meat substitues, like veggie burgers. They even veggie sausage, hot dogs, etc.. It helps alot. Also, eat more legumes, it leaves you more satisfied than just veggies or fruits. I cook beans with tomatoes, green chilies, garlic, onions and whatever else I can find to put in there. Another good idea is to make fajitas with portabello mushrooms, it has a meaty texture. Really good too! Good luck!

I haven't eaten meat since August 2005. I ate a ton of meat before that. I still think meat smells good sometimes.
I don't crave meat because I know what it is and where it comes from. Animals are not food. Make that connection. If you go vegetarian or vegan, don't do it lightly. Understand the issue, make a commitment and you won't have a problem.
Think about all the foods you can eat. Don't think about it as denying yourself anything. There are tons of things you can eat. Learn to cook and explore new vegetables and grains. You'll be surprised how easy it is.

It takes at least a couple of years to get red meat out of your system. I mean this in terms of what it does to your body. A friend was visiting in South Africa. I am not sure now what group it was but he was told that meat eaters have a distinct body oder! Not nice! Experiencing different cultures is a learning curve, insightful eh!
Cravings after that may relate to dietary needs. Make sure you don't over load on carbs and that you get a lot of greens, especially dark green veggies. Learning how to be a vegetarian the healthy way is awsome. My uncle is in his eighties and has been a vegetarian since the age of nine. The worst health problem he has ever had is slipped disks.
Some things are just about flavour though so you have to learn to cook tastey dishes. That's fun. Gravy was my Nemesis.
Human beings are classified as omnivores not carnivors or vegetarians. This gifts us with a more adaptable digestive system generally speaking! So as individuals, we need to learn what our body works best on. That can vary on what is available and where we are, what time of year it is, our age and gendre, things like that!
I find I shift back and forth. So since I do have a conscience and empathy for other beings, when it come to animals I try to buy from sources I think treat them with more respect, or I get my meat wild so I know that animal has lived a natural life. I also declare my appreciation for the lives of all living creatures , plants and so on that I eat. It matters to me how a living creature lives and dies.
I try to buy as much organic food as I can because it puts back into the earth in a good more natural sustaining way.
Good luck! I have done it, it is a great experience!

The keys to not craving meat are as follows:
1. Learn where it comes from. When fried
chicken and hamburgers remind you of
death you won't crave as bad.
2. Always have healthy snacks around you.
Never let yourself go hungry. You actually
crave protein and vitamins when you are
hungry. Once you get in a routine of using
plant-based protein to thwart hunger it
will become ritual de habitual and be the
only thing that makes sense to you.
3. Eat at least five servings of vegetables.
They will help you stay full, nourished,
and satisfied and give you vitamins that
are impossible to get out of meat.

The craving will always be there, it just takes disciple on your part. It's a everyday thing. Cut back on the meat slowly, over time. Don't just do it cold turkey (Sorry!). With anything, find something to replace the meat you love.

I've been a vegetarian for 5 years now.
I first stopped eating red meat and just ate chicken and fish, then became vegetarian.
I only got cravings for about 3 months really, but now i'm starting to get them back! and i havent had them for ages...
I find that the videos and posters on www.peta.com about the cruelty animals face, keep me motivated.
Hope this helped. x

You will crave meat if you are not getting the proper nutrients from a vegetarian diet.
Do your research before becoming a vegetarian. You have to be more creative with your recipes but once you develop a good repetoire, you will see many benefits of a vegetarian diet.

If you see to be vegan FOR THE RIGHT REASONS well then there will be no "craving", or rather you would KNOW that it was a "murderous" activity that you were involved with.
It was a gross thing that I once did :meat eating. We were born into such a GROSS WORLD.
Find PLANT BASED MEALS to make that you can enjoy. Sometimes you have to "go back to teh basics" and then work up from there... I mean over time NEW and EXCITING vegan meals will arrive on the market and well we may enjoy some of them.
My advice is to SEE to compassion first and foremost, and make that the reason as to why you do not engage in such GROSS MURDEROUS or RAPING(cow milk/eggs) activities.
I realized LATER that it's true to say that I would not want someone to MURDER me and eat me.

Once you educate your self about how unsanitary meat is and how horribly animals are treated, you will lose the cravings. I won't tell you more than that, unless you email me and ask me to, but I highly recommend googling the topic of how meat is processed and sanitized-that cured my cravings straight away

What she probably actually craved was protien and it came as meat, because that is a non-vegetarians most common source. Just maek sure to get plenty of protien from other sources.
