Anyone out there have/had the above? My mum who is only 41 has recently had one. The hospital is looking into it (long story) and i was wondering if anyone out there knows the difference between them and the sympstoms, and if Bells has a long lasting effect. Thankyou.

stroke and bells palsey are completely different. Bells Palsey effects the nerves in the face only and stroke usually pralysis half of the body, legs and arms and face. Have your mom raise her eye brow. Do you see all the creases in the forehead? if yes that means that it is not a stroke. Bells palsy is usually caused by sleeping at night in a cold room with a fan or sitting a convertable car and it is not permanent and will go away on its own in a few months. Bell palsey has no treatment that I know of, and you will jus have to wait for it to heal on its own.

I had Bells Palsey about 6 years ago. I woke up one morning and the side of my face had dropped.I thought I had,had a stroke.I couldn't close my eye.The doctor gave me drops for my eye to stop it from getting infected. It took a few weeks for it to clear up,but please get medical advice, and good luck.

Bells palsy pretty much always resolves...there's lots of info on facial paralysis on the web.

A stroke is much different. There may be facial paralysis on one side, but also many other varied symptoms- like weakness or tingling on that whole sode ofthe body...trouble speaking, loss of vision, confusion, etc.
There;s lots of stroke info out there too.
Not all stroke symptoms resolve.
