We are always in a spiritual battle, Satan is not bound yet, But when you are trying to stop something like smoking, drinking, or whatever, with some people God takes that away instantly, with me, before I was saved, I could out cuss anyone, God took that & drinking away from me instantly, But I do know some that it takes longer, Just keep on praying & trusting God, & before you know it you will stop, But don't be discouraged, if you fail, just keep on trying & soon God will give you the strenght.

A couple of things can be done:
1. Read poetry and inspirational works by people like yourself, or people who have already won the spiritual war.Sufi mystics are a good example.
2. Surround yourself with people with likeminded approaches to life. You will not find them easily, but theyre there and will give you a sense of hope and peace and prosperity.
3. Keep praying for guidance in all levels of your life. Do not conform and be afraid in face of adversity, keep your resolve steady and your intentions pure.
Good luck on your Journey!

He should take some time to sort out his feelings and if they are helping/hurting him. I have 2 ways to send you on this. I would practice the method listed in the Best Answer from jennainhiding @ this location:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AiiDzRD5NYlX8UcNOwD3nqzty6IX?qid=20070308234943AAokXIM&show=7#profile-info-ZKyDOKqOaa
The other thing I would propose if you are battling a drug/alcohol addiction is to visit this site (especially if you want to kill it or break a habit without the help of God, rather with your own self):
http://www.rational.org/html_bullets/Bullet1.html
The above page refers to a concept called Rational Recovery. I cut myself for 12 years and have not cut for 4 years, and will never do it again, because of the RR way. It worked for me.

If he is waiting on help from God, he will wait until the day he dies. When did God ever help anyone? Almost 30,000 children will die today of malnutrition and disease. If God can't be bothered to help them, why would he help your friend with something as trivial as a bad habit? This person needs to stop fantasizing that some invisible father-figure will reach down from the sky and magically make his problems go away. That is childish thinking. If he wants to stop bad habits--smoking, drinking, whatever--then he has to do it himself. No amount of praying, reading the Bible, or buying self-help books will work if he doesn't put in the effort himself. That is how self-help works--you have to help yourself. God, if he/she/ it exists, doesn't care about him.

I found out one thing if you love doing or owning something God will not take from you . You have to give it up first you have to learn to hate it then God will give you the strenght to over come it or take it away frome you.I had a boat that i loved i wanted one for a very long time God delt with me to sell it so i put it up for sale it set in yard for 3 months so i ask God why has it not sold, he spoke to my heart you have let it go first i threw up my hands and said its yours the next day it sold so i did learn something from that.

Bad habits are not spiritual battles but mental battles. So he should seek mental help in dealing with his problem.

Every time you have the urge to do some of those bad habits, get down on your knees and pray till the urge passes. Or you can even pray standing up!

all human beings( belivers in God or not) ... are strugling in spiritual battle ...and the only way you can win this is by accepting the gift of salvation that God gave to us wich is his only son Jesus Christ whom he sent to be sacraficed on the cross for our sins so that we can have eternal life all you have to do is ask God for forgiveness of all your sins in the name of Jesus christ who already paid the price with his precious blood....and you will be forgiven and written in the book of life....mean while we will still be battling a spiritual battle here on earth but God gave us a powerfull wepon wich is the holy bible ... other wise if you never accept the savior you will unfourtunatly to the battle :( ........ by the way im not trying to convince you of anything but this is the truth, i used to deny god and i used to hate people who tryed telling me that i needed Christ in my life,i was a compleat athies! i never thought id be telling these things to someone my self ,but god changed my life! :)
