She is 6 months old and spayed and has done this numerous times. We saw the vet who was unable to suggest anything and we don't want to pay for a behaviourist. If it carries on we'll have to get rid of her so help please!

Sorry, should have made it clearer, doesn't necessairily urinate in bedroom only. She also peed on my coat downstairs yesterday! And we can never catch her doing it!

When you catch her in the act spray her with a water thing (not the mist) and wash your duvet with citrus smelling stuff or put citrus on your bed cats hate it. Or you could just shut the door.

Firstly lemon juice and bicarbonate of soda help with cleaning, no matter how much you think you have cleaned something a cat has urinated the cat will always be able to smell 'their smell' and therefore will treat it like a cat litter and keep returning. The lemon juice will cut through the ammonia from the urine and will guarantee the cat not to come back and smell it's smell and the bicarbonate will ensure it's as clean as it can get.

To stop your cat doing it altogether (this doesn't sound pleasant but trust me it works and it's not as cruel as it sounds) try picking the cat up and rubbing it's nose in the urine. Trust me it does work and is a good behavioural technique for a young cat. You can also try tapping the cat on it's nose (it's a very sensitive part so not more than a tap) and sternly telling it 'NO'.

I've had cats all my life and one thing I've found for certain is at any point a cat will mess in the house and this is the most effective way of teaching them, do it from as young an ages as possible though.

I hope this helps.

We had this problem when we first got out cat spayed. He was not impressed in the slightest and took it out on something we used all the time, Our duvet.

Cats, like people get annoyed and unlike us they cannot vocalise effectively......lol........unless they are siamese, so their views are not heard.

We washed the duvet, and then sprayed it with febreze and then a special spray recommend by our vet. Any one to detract catsfrom urinating in the same place again will work but this was a while ago and in Australia so I'm not even sure the product would be available here in the UK. We then actually put a second duvet on the first one during the day.
We also made as much fuss of our cat as we could, within reason. he didn't interrupt meals or other family times but when appropriate we gave him a lot more attention

After a while, he just stopped doing it but it took several washes and lots of febreze and the repellant spray.

My female does the same thing, she's 8 years old and spayed. The only thing I've found I can do is keep the door closed. She doesn't do it when I'm in bed at night so thats the only time she's allowed in.I've noticed when I go on holiday she tended to do it more(payback?) or if her litterbox isn't clean.Don't even bother trying to clean the duvat because its easier to just buy a new one.I've never tried it but someone told me that soaking in vodka will take the smell of cat urine out.GL

i had the same problem with my cat not long ago and what worked for me was changing the brand of cat litter. cats are very fussy, especially with the quality of their cat litter. if it doesnt do its job very good, i.e eliminate the smell of urine then they will go anywhere else to urinate that has not got this smell. there are cat litters out there that have blue crystals in them that stop the urine smell from lingering. the cat litter i use is catsan. its really good and lasts ages, just make sure you constantly check your cats litter tray. even the smallest bit of soiled litter will put them off using it. i hope this works for you as it did for me.

when we got a new cat she peed on out duvet a couple of times but i cleaned it with detol and she didn't like the smell and didn't do it again after that. it has been much more difficult to stop her peeing in our plant pots. but you gotta love em.

I would buy a new duvet to get rid of the scent. Then simply do not allow her into your bedroom.

Cover the area with aluminum foil...cats don’t like the sound aluminum foil makes when walked on, and most hate the texture...
