What could possibly be meaner than telling someone they are going to be tortured for all eternity, if they don't believe what you believe or act the way they want you to act? What could an atheist have that would top that?

I've seen that when people ask rude, ignorant, or condescending questions to atheists, then they get meaner answers. If they ask something in the spirit of simply educating themselves about the beliefs of atheists, then the atheists are perfectly nice in the way they answer.

Is it polite for a christian to tell a person outside of their establishment that they are going to hell? My father is an atheist, and everyone says he is a kind man. He happens to love his family. What! Athiests can't feel love or have any compassion for his fellow man, according to ignorant christians. I don't think athiests are any meaner than so called christians, and they tend to be better educated. I got a message last week from someone who claims to be a catholic. She asked, - What are you, - a lesbian dyke who can't get a date? Now, is that polite? One of my answers must have rubbed her the wrong way, but that is no reason to make an attack on my personal character. I found it kind of funny really. He he.

Generally, it depends on whether or not the question offends them, or if it's one that's asked fifty times a day here. When a question is typed in, similar questions come up, so we know when someone has ignored the fact that the same question has been posted before, and we take that as a sign that the person asking the question doesn't mind wasting our time.

Yes. I see more Christians saying "God bless you" than Atheists giving some sort of respectful nod. And even if a Christian asks a decent question, they tend to get insulted fairly quickly. Although some supposed-Christians are indecent and imposters, a true Christian is easier to distinguish from a true Atheist.

Atheist responses are probably more blunt. Whereas some of the believer answers are often condemning, and down right annoying.

I only give mean answers when their deserved. Which means if the question is inflammatory, I'll probably give you a mean response. That's obviously what you wanted right, if you ask a mean question ?

It's been my expierence that there is no difference between either. I have met militant atheists which would be on par with fascist fundamentalist christians. So when it is all said and done, what difference does it make?
