Everyone above me answered with a point and shoot suggestion. Just in case you are open to the idea, ANY dSLR with 6 MP will beat the pants off of any P&S with 6 MP.
Look at a Nikon D40 or D50; or a Pentax K110D or K100D. Heck, you can even get an 8 MP Canon Rebel XT in the same price bracket as the Nikons. The Pentax K110D costs less than some P&S cameras, too.

My daughter has a Kodak EasyShare Z650 6.1 megapixels. I'm not sure its the best but it takes really great pictures, its easy to use and zooms in good. I have an Olympus - its a good camera - great pictures - but to me it's harder to set up.
