I'm going to buy a telephoto lens attachment that is rated at 1.5x. What would be my new optical zoom? 7.5x or 9x...
I'm just wondering.

The lens attachments are multipliers, so the new max telephoto would be

6x times 1.5 = 9x

Be sure that the attachment is made for your camera. There are differences in diameter. Also, all increased telephoto lenses will lose some light, but lower quality attachments will lose lots of light (make pics darker). Finally check to see if your camera requires a Menu setting when you use an attachment.

The telephoto attachments often reduce your usable wide angle at the other end. Do not be surprised if you see dark corners at wide angle when the attachment is on. It's not defective; the optics of the attachment are for telephoto. If you want strong wide angle, take the attachment off.

Good Luck
