Pehaps there is in a Universal Sense, and man has only tailored it to his own experiential needs, tribal structure, well being, geographical surroundings, animal preditors & prey, ecology, weather, superstitions and fears, and his need to make some sense of, or to excert some form of control over that which he has no control. He needs to share his fears, and he realizes that nthe safety in numbers is that your odds are increased be cause of the proximimity of more targets, and the show of forceof many can usually diswade a larger predator that would normally not bbe diswaded by a sigle or only a few individuals.

So what device keeps a band together any longer than the hunt and the feasting directly afterward? Perhaps its the fear of breaking off from the group? Perhaps its the dawing Realization that the group is a more effective hunting vehicle than a man alone. Pehaps something happened during the hunt or a battle that someone decided was some kind of a sign or omen, or blessing or good fortune.

Religion is a basic socialization need of man, no less imprtant to the survival of man, than that of speech, and just as basic and powerful a tool as fire, but infinatly more powerful. A people without a common and abiding faith in a higher power, -a force greater that their own earthly energies can not and will not long endure, for they will have no reason to develope a sense of family , for without a broader cognitive sense of community, there will be nothing to bind one to the other, and all shall perish.

How is it, if this is not true that almost simultaneously around the wordl as new peoples emerge from the trees, jungles, savannah, caves, deserts, high deserts, and plains that all of our earthly ancestors left behind similar evidence in the form of cave drawings, pottery, carvings, artifacts, and later scrolls, papryus scrolls, clay tiles, cuniform writings, rune stone markings, stone carvings, statues, coins, temples, and similar evidence that all point to the same inevitale conclusion - man had religion or worship of a God, Gods, or higher being in one form or another since we first began to scrabble abouth on this rock we call earth. And that was the one true religion - the CONCEPT of believing in a power or being, (Real or ethereal), that is greater and more powerful that we can everbe, who has the power to change things in our lives for the better, to watch over us, protect and recieve our dead, bless the crops and children, watch over us in battle, bless our crops, heal or sick, and fix all other matter of disater and injustice.

As our brains developed and we became more aware, smarter, more devious, treacherous, power hungry, rigtheous, high-minded, intollerant, racist, close-minded, radical, puritanical, and Militant, people became dissatisfied with the status quo- and broke off from the group, to start their own followings, and so it began. Some worshiped the sunfor it's warmth, and the energy itgave to grow the crops. Others rfevered the bear or the Walrus. Others he Moon, still others the Snake for its Power. Some Created An INvisible Diety inThree Parts. Others Prhphets - and so on. Sunni, Shitte, Lutheran, Methodist, Buddist, Hindui, Catholic, Muslim, Christian, Judiasm, Calvinist, Mormon, and on & on the list goes. But almost univesrally, the jist of these Faiths is that there is a higher power that man believes in , a perfect example of how we should all strive to live our lives in perfect love, peace, and honor, and obiedience to our chosen Higher Power. This belief in a higher power give man hope for a better life in this world and in the life here after. There are usually set rituals proscribed for the faithful, comfortable vestments of the "church" for the members to identify with.

This is why to this day, I an still put off by the idea of "Missionaries" being sent out into the world to "Convert" the savages among us. What utter Gall! How is it that a Lutheran, or Methodist, or Catholic can presume to go to say - Africa to "Save" a tribe of sining heathen "Half Naked Savages" who worship, (of all things - get this:), the Sun & Trees? 9How is that more riduculous that worshiping a "Holy Ghost:?

But make No mistake about it - RELIGION / ETHNICITY AND ONLY RELIGION / ETHNICITY ARE THE HANDS DOWN NUMBER ONE REASON PEOPLE DOWN THROUGH THE AGEAS HAVE BEEN TOURTURED AND KILLED ALL ACROSS THE WORLD, and likely always will be.

Most people in the world have a religious belief of some kind... however most people do not choose it.
People are born into a family, a culture, and often a religion. To change their religion would be to leave their culture, family, friends and all they are used to. So each religion goes on and on.
Religions can split, but they cannot merge. To merge two religions would be to change the beliefs, and any religious group would not do so for the benefit of another religious group.

To answer the first part of your question I will ask a question. Who is to say what the one true religion is? Are the Christians right? Are the Cathlics right? Are the Buddists right? Are the Islams right? ect. ect....

Not everyone in the world will agree on the same thing and that is why there are so many religions out there....

Jews, Muslims, Christians, Toaist, Buddists, and many other religions are far closer in their belief systems then most people think.

There is much more that brings us together then drives us apart. In that sense we, believers, are very close, and to me there are only minor details that separate us. The one "true" point is that there is a higher power that governs us and the minor differences are just that, minor.

there is no such thing as "one true religion" and if there was there is always gonna be a group of people who feels like being different and rebell and have disagreements with the religion. plus over the years people become more open minded and became more different for each other. for example walking out side you can see all types of different people with different opinions and views

People dont practice the one true religion for the same reason that YOU dont. You dont want God telling you what to do. God laid down certain rules. You dont want to follow them. God gave you His Son to die for your sins. You dont want to accept the fact that you are a sinner in need of salvation. Jesus says He is the ONLY way to God. You do not want to accept Him at His word because then you would have to bow the the knee to Him as Lord and Savior. Jesus says men love "darkness" more than "Light". And THAT my friend, is why people dont practice the "one true religion". It's PRIDE.....theBerean

There is one, it is true Christianity, those who believe in and follow Christ as our Lord and Savior. Not every one who claims the status Christian is really a Christian. Simplest of explanations would be because God gave us free will and people can choose not to follow, or even not believe in Him.

There is one true religion, the problem is only 1% actually seek the knowledge, and only 1% of them actually figure out what it is.

Jesus knew, only because he searched for it. In Tibet.
