Hey Hippo, I live in BKK as well, I don't know if you've noticed but mattress pads seem to be very popular these days in Thailand, about an inch or two in thickness, and would make a descent bed for you guest for a few nights. It wouldn't be any harder than the rock-hard beds available in Thailand, and if you bought the same size as your mattress, you could use it on your bed after your guest leaves. They are made of material very similar to mattresses (on the outside) and depending on size, cost around 1000 baht. I know for sure they are presently available at a concession on the 2nd floor of the Carrefour Shopping Center on Ratchadaphisik in front of the entrance to the Home Pro store, but have seen them all over Bangkok as well. Just a suggestion, otherwise I would try MBK, 5th floor, not the fourth.

Check at MBK on the 4th floor, all those furniture stores.
You might try in Silom area. That once was a center for many Japanese tourists. Someone might sell a futon.
Come to think of it, I have not seen a futon store in Thailand. Nor have I seen any futons or folding beds.
Good luck
