If a child feels as if she are not ready to get behind the wheel, then she is not. Safe driving habits come with maturity. Be thankful that your child knows that she is not ready. The fact is, many states are now looking at delaying driving until the age of 17 because 16-year-olds have been found to be going through drastic physical, emotional and hormonal changes at that time. These changes significantly delay decision-making responses to emergency situations. The age that sees more accidents than any other is 16, so why would anyone want their child to drive then? Our daughter was in no hurry to get her license either, and now she is a pilot. It may be inconvenient for awhile, but enjoy the time you will still have together as you drive her where she needs to go. Use that time to converse and learn about her day and her goals. It will bring you closer.

I'm 25 and still not ready for driving lessons, it's a big responsibilty and it soulds like she's taking that seriously.
Ask if she's not ready to learn, or if she's just worried about taking lessons?
It could be that she doesn't want to get in a car with a stranger until she has some confidence. Maybe take her out to a parking lot or something and let her sit behind the wheel of your car.

This is fine and quite normal - all children are individuals.
I can remember at 17 or 18 not being in a great hurry to learn how to drive. Public transport was accessible and easy to use. I learnt how to drive eventually - when I was ready.
I am sure that when your daughter is ready she will let you know.

I will be 18 in a couple of months, I feel as your daughter does. I do not want my license, or to drive. It is not really important to me right now. I will probably do it when I am older. I can get around perfectly fine on my own two feet, and I live right on a street with 3 main bus routes nearby. I feel i do not need it. Plus, I don't trust my judgement with a 3000lb peice of machinery.

It takes a very mature teenage to recognize that she isn't ready. You should be extremely proud of her. I know a couple of sixteen-year-old licensed drivers who a far to immature to have that responsibility. Ir's too bad the DMV can't do a
test for that!

Seems to be pretty normal these days...I know it seems odd, when I was that age I was knocking down the door of the DMV on my birthday.
You should be thankful though...your insurance rates go through the roof if she gets a license, whether or not she has a car.

I wouldn't worry about it. She'll be driving soon enough. Look at all the money you'll save on gas.
