The purpose of life is to advance the progress of mankind. Not everyone can do this in a grand way, but everyone can improve the life of someone else, and that will have a ripple effect. Everyone has something to contribute to life and finding what that is for ones self brings meaning and fulfillment.

People has different point of view regarding on what is really the meaning of life. The meaning of life to me is to serve God and follow His will. I have faith that solely base on the bible so as a basis I will quote some verses coming from the bible.
Long time ago a wise man said this “Ecclesiastes 1:2 -14 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.
The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.
All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.
I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith.
I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. “
If we will read the entire book of Ecclesiastes we will see that Solomon searching for “what is the purpose” or ”the meaning of life”. He do everything what his heart desire/wants but in the end he got one conclusion for what is the meaning or purpose of life: And he wrote “Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”
And I believe in what Solomon’s believe in.

Great Question!

Well, I am here to discover why I am here!

Not joking, Its what I have established through my study and knowledge over last 7 years. I have been searching for the same question and answer is simple.

If you found it not making sense, let me show you.

We are all humans. We all are born, grow up, eat, drink, get married, bear children, and die.

Now, lets see what others beings do.

The are born, grow up, eat, drink, get their couple, bear children, die.

So, where is the diffrerence?

We are not animals, we are ruling the planet, you know. This is because we have been created with a better set of abilities which can do more than the animal life things.

We can discover and invent! We have to go beyond the horizons and limitations.

Now what I have to do here? I have to discover my role in the future and perform it.

I can give hints about how to do that as well but it would take too long!

I hope you got the point!

Don't know, but here are some ideas of mine.

1) To procreate?
2) To be happy/To make others happy.
3) To gain experience for whatever afterlife that may or may not exist?
4) This could just be some sort of game. Like virtual reality or some sort of game where souls take over lower creatures for fun.
5) We could all be part of some cosmic machine or something.
6)To find out the answer to life. Literally, that's the meaning. The meaning is to find out the meaning that there is no meaning, savy? Live to live.

Well, I'm tapped. Hopefully one of these will get you started on finding out what so many long for. Good luck.

The meaning of my life is to be in a living, loving relationship with my Creator. Jesus restored the broken relationship I had with God by paying all the punishment for my failures. Now I can communicate with God each day and enjoy reading His love letter to me-- the Bible.
"All things were created by Him.... and for Him."
Without a relationship with God life has no meaning for me.

Seriously, depending if you believe in faith, your purpose is to allow your soul to leave the earth forever. This can be achieved, but im still learning how. I may call myself a christian, but I don't assume that just because we are baptized and develop a relationship with god that heaven is that easy to get to.

If you are atheist, your purpose is to be as successful as possible and die a rich man.

"The rich man will have the hardest time to find his way to heaven" -Jesus

God does not like to send us to this temporary miserable material world. We want to come here and God sanctions it. Just like if a child wants to touch fire, the parents say no. But when the child wants again and again, the parents say ok. The child touches and burns the fingers and does not touch the fire again.

When we come here in this material world, one is born to die again and again in the mrityu samsara(chain of birth and death) until we learn our lesson(burn our fingers)and go back to God.

But, the reason behind birth and death is to learn the lesson that the material world is temporary and miserable as told by Lord Sri Krishna in the Bhagavad-gita(8.15) thus, "After attaining Me, the great souls, who are yogés in devotion, never return to this temporary world, which is full of miseries, because they have attained the highest perfection".

Just like one goes to school not to stay there permanently or one goes to the hospital not to stay there for over. From the school we learn and go out and from the hospital we get cured and go out. Similarly in this temporary miserable world of repeated birth and death (Mrityu samsara) we learn the lesson and go back to our original home, back to God's abode in the spiritual world.

The purpose of life is not MATERIAL HAPPINESS which is transitory, flickering and temporary but it is the eternal SPIRITUAL HAPPINESS obtained with love of Godhead.

After God sends us here on the material world due to our will, God gave various scriptures so that human beings can, by reading them lead a peaceful life on earth and understand the purpose of God. Scriptures vary from place to place and are different according the nature of the persons capacityGod Himself comes himself in various avatars like Lord Buddha, Krishna, Chaitanya and sends his different representatives, sons like Jesus and Mohammed. And other preachers of God consciousness appeared in different places and gave different methods of approach to God. Though, all speak about the same God consciousness, the way of approach is different due to difference in language, place and circumstances etc...
