I had a big toothache 2 days ago, and I have to get a root canal done, but I put it off. I have been getting pain in my ear (left) and then I started to get a sore jaw, which turned out to be a lymph node the nurse practitioner said.

I also developed over night.. a small tear inside my mouth, on the left side, near where the tooth that needs to be root canaled is. I asked for amoxicillan, even tho she didnt think I should be alarmed. Also I had told her about ear pain before, a week ago and she checked but said that my ears looked "normal".

This morning I couldnt lie on my left side of face.. I had to lie on my back or right side. I am starting to take the amoxicillan.

What do you think? Any answers will be appreciated. its still sore when I swallow as the lymph node feels swollen on the inside, not enough to show, and i have the tear in my mouth.

Sounds like you got an infection of some sort take your antibiotics on the clock and watch out for fever or foul odor from your mouth.

Girlfriend kudos to you. The swollen lymph node thing is no fun. That is generally a good sign. Of an onset infection. i have a bad tooth. In the rear of my mouth. That I have been putting off. Yet I can't afford the dental procedures. If you have the chance to rectify this. Then go for it. I can understand that you may not. Like the idea of the sound of the drill. I can't think anyone who does. Once you let the dentist. Take care or your mouth. You'll feel a helluva lot better.

I have to agree with 'poetic', you absolutely must call your dentist and reschedule your root canal and let him know about the open area in your mouth. He won't do the root canal until the infection has subsided. In addition, while the nurse practitioner wasn't overly concerned she should have had you taking the antibiotic right away. The dely could have caused lead to a multitude of other problems including but not limited to an absess and possible hearing loss. I think that your insistence is the only thing that preserved your health. Kudo's to you. Good luck with the dental work.

It is normal for your lymph nodes to swell in the presence of an infection in your system. If you need a root canal, the swollen lymph node is likely an indicator of the infection in the root of the tooth. I would definitely call my dentist back, tell him or her about the swollen lymph node, and have your root canal rescheduled as soon as possible.

I think you definitely are overreacting here. I get the same problem and my doctor said it's fine. Occasionally my right lymph node swells up (sometimes there's pain, but not always). It's apparently just your body reacting to a soar throat or allergies, or something of a lesser extent than cancer. If your symptoms keep up for too long, then maybe think about calling up your doctor, but I seriously think you're fine. Especially if your doc already said so him/herself.

It sounds like the infection spread (jaw, inner ear) and you should now go see a Doctor ASAP. Infection is nothing to take a chance with especially in and around the face as it can travel to the brain. You mentioned you are now taking an antibiotic, I hope you got it from your DR. as I really hope you go get checked out.
A Dentist is in the dental field, your Doctor will treat and diagnose infection, good luck! Be safe please :-(
