I've been told ducks, but how many ducks would be needed just to make one pillow? They must come from somewhere else.

but most come from slaughter houses. Duck Goose and Chicken feathers are used the carcase is sent through a machine that strips the feathers away these can be sorted by size, washed and sent through a machine that curles them (to make them fluff up)

No birds are killed soley for their feathers. Maybe by ancient tribes or Indians. The under feathers are considered down. Some are discarded. Colorful ones may be used in a decorative setting. Some are even dyed for that use. Look at some women's hats.

I have some Ikea feather pillows, and the feathers are chicken feathers. If you get duck down feather pillows they cost the earth. My Ikea ones are lovely and snuggly.
