I have that problem as well. What works for me is my mono-pod or tripod (the tripod is steadier, but the mono-pod is more portable). I also try to brace myself against something solid while I shoot (a rail, or a wall, or what ever is handy). I also shoot several frames in a row and usually at least one shot turns out. If none of that works, then I just have to light my subject well and use a faster shutter speed.

Use a film with higher sensitivity(200-400ASA) and/or put your shutter speed setting higher at 125-250. Doing this or a combination of both, you don't have to worry about you shaking cause the settings will capture everything at super speeds eliminating any props or tri-pods for staediness. These settings must be used in higher light conditions and if you have an automatic light meter use it always. Click here to learn more...........

This is a problem for a lot of people. There is something I think called a monopod (like a tripod) but with one leg. It is very portable. It is not perfect but may help. Also use a fast shutter speed when possible.

1) try tightening your elbow to your body when you are aiming at something.
2) Edge your hand on a firm surface, like side of wall or tree trunk or backrest of a chair.
3) buy a sringe press, that help you take steady shot without having to press the button.
4) get tripod if you can afford so. Its really fun to have self potraits with tripods. :-D
Enjoy your shooting.

Sharp shooters use this technique:
RELAX. Take a deep breath slowly let it out sort of half way, then squeeze the trigger. Do not jerk it SLOWLY SQUEEZE.
Replace trigger with button and see if this helps. If not get a tri-pod.

you might try taking several DEEP breaths then on the last breath, hold it, raise the camera to your eye then slowly release your breath while snapping the shutter

Sometimes it's called "Military Surplus" equipment. I hope you have a safe Halloween! You already have your costume.
