People that say foxes are evil are just plan ignorant . They are no more evil than a tiger , bear or any other wild animal . I think because they are little and cute , looking a little like a dog , some people think they should behave like a dog . They have wild instinks and are no more evil than a wolf . Some farmers will kill foxes and wolves because they are both predators and the will kill livestock . I think the answer here is to have a couple of good herding dogs to protect the livestock . The dogs will urinate and mark their territory so you would not have so much of a problem with wild animals .

Some people used to think cats were evil (superstitions about black cats etc). Calling an animal "evil" is basic ignorance. Some people call wolves evil too, but they are wild, just like foxes are wild. These animals become problems when they attack and/or kill livestock or pets. Some cats are wild, but hopefully TNR (trap neuter return) programs will help reduce the population of feral cats. Responsible owners should neuter their cats, and for the safety of the cats, keep them indoors more often. It could also be argued that cats help the evolutionary process by weeding out the weaker and slower birds so that the population of birds becomes stronger as a whole. Besides, foxes aren't known for catching mice.

Peoples personal feelings towards cats change their views.

Also farmers who are too lazy and cheapskate so buy decent poultry sheds and to keep lambs in barns till they are 2 weeks old (after 2 weeks they are too strong to be at risk from foxes)demonise them.Thing is if they took these precautions foxes would be their friends by killing vermin-rats and mice, rabbits and hares, crows, squirrels etc.

And to the 2 people saying foxes kill all the hens in a house but only take 1.Yes they appear to do this but this is only because the farmer or a farm dog has disturbed them.If undisturbed they will make trips back and forth and bury all the bodies to eat later so they won't have to hunt for days.

Foxes are predators and they kill in order to survive and to feed their young.

A domestic cat is a natural predator and it will hunt and kill even if it is well fed. It does so in order to maintain its hunting skills. This is a survival instinct in the cat. Neutered queens often bring dead mice and birds home and present them to their owners - this is what they would have done if they had kittens - again it is natural and normal for them to do this.

What is not normal or natural is for people to label animals as 'evil'.

People have an awareness of what is good and what is bad. People who choose to be cruel, sadistic, murderous etc. are evil - animals are not.

People also kill millions of birds and animals for sport or to eat or for experimentation.

And finally people kill people - either as individual murderers or in war.

Only human beings have the capacity for evil. Animals just have behaviour patterns. It is a fox 's nature to kill all prey available and it will then cache them in a series of burials between the scene and it's lair. It is very disturbing to see the wholesale slaughter that results if they get in a hen run. But then it was our idea to concentrate it's prey in large groups. People only have a very strong aversion to a particular animal if they have a phobia or more serious mental problem.

As for all your answers tirading against cats killing birds.
The most evil predator on earth is humanity. Yet I don't hear anyone voting for an organised cull of these evil creatures

Better PR. Cats kill a whole heck of a lot of song birds. If you have one you should spay or neuter it.

They're not evil as such and you are right that cats will also kill, no matter how well nourished they are. Both foxes and cats will kill for sport as well as for food.
