"Don't trust what you read and trust half of what you hear"?? I heard a quote like this but I can't remember what it said exactly. Does anyone know?

Marvin Gaye wrote a song "I heard it through the grapevine" and there is a line that goes:

'People say believe half of what you see
Son, and none of what you hear'

Its a saying that's been around for years. Dinah Mulock Craik was the first one who penned it though.

I think the quote was, "Don't believe anything you hear, and only half of what you see", not sure who to credit it to though.

What you seeing (i.e., visualising) is not true, What you hearing is not true, But enquiring and getting the real is true
