It is confusing!!

You can have a handbag, as long as (if needed) you can fit it into your flight bag.

Happy travelling

The gate guards at LHR, run by BAA (which is not the same as BA) have an incredible variety of ever-changing rules. I've been through with 2, I've been told only one, and I've even had my one weighed and double checked. It's really confusing.

Your best bet is to make sure the one can fit in the other. If necessary, wear a coat and put some of your items in your coat pockets to get extra space.

Flying to LHR from pretty much anywhere you can get on with 1+1.

I confirm the first answer;
I have been asked to put my hand bag into the flight bag so controllers have to check only 1 bag per passenger; So make some room on purpose.

If you ask the airlines themselves, they will tend to be a lot stricter when telling you than in practice. e.g. Cathay Pacific told me only one carry bag (also the "official rule" on their site) only of a certain size but I was able to check in with 3 carry on bags (including one laptop bag) without a remark or look from the attendants.

Especially for women, they will let you have your hand bag and your flight bag.

you are only allowed one piece of hand luggage on board the aircraft, i popped my handbag into my flight case, if it's a hand luggage bag & a flight bag, they will still tell you that your only allowed the one piece of luggage on board.
