I too, can relate to this. Panic attacks are not good and yes, you can feel as though you are dying.
I found that by learning and practising when I'm not having a panic attack, some basic relaxation techniques, I can control these much better.
Klonopin can be useful for these and I'm glad it works for you. What works for you might not work for someone else.
The Self-help toolkit on this website might give you some assistance in teaching yourself some basic relaxation techniques.

I hope things get better for you. It is possible to conquer your fears and stop the panic attacks. Hang in there.

Yeah, unfortunately, I have them pretty consistently. They're the most horrible experience in the world. I think I'd rather be hit by a car. I've been in the hospital four times because they get so bad.
I have a prescription for Xanax prescribed on an as needed basis but I hate the way they make me feel. Maybe I should ask a new doctor about Klonopin... I've heard good things.

Poor little Tinker. I do know what you are talking about. The feeling of dying is so real at the time. I suffered panic attacks for years. After trying every Gawd awful med on the market, my Dr put me on xanax.I know xanax gets a bad rap,but it is the only thing I would recommend. I don't have depression and .50 mg 3 times a day is the magic bullet for me. I hope you can find help for you.

Yes, I have had panic attacks before. I even went to the ER at 4 o'clock in the morning cause I thought something terrible was happening to me even though I knew it was a panic attack and I was fine I couldn't stop the attack. They gave me a pretty strong dose of Ativan and sent me home. The following night I was having one again and had to take some more Ativan. They are not fun at all. I have been there, believe me.

Feeling as though one is about to die is a common symptom of a full-blown panic attack. You may also experience sweating, racing heartbeat, chest pain, back pain (from tension), feelings of being disconnected from reality, shortness of breath, choking feeling or throat tightness, paranoia, pain in legs or arms, headache, dry mouth, and probably a bunch I forgot to mention. They do suck! I used to have them 3 times a day. I take Wellbutrin now and it has really helped me. If you have them often enough you may want to try some meds.

I can sure relate to that. It is a very frightening experience. Many times i thought i was going to die.Particularly in a crowd of people. I hate to be the center of attention. If one starts to happen i feel trapped and the feeling gets worse.
