I have a concordance and a lexicon, so I like to do my own "word studies" - I can follow a word all the way thru scripture to see God's meaning of it.
Whatever is going on in my life, be it family, gov't, etc., I can study it on my own.
I go to this website if I want an aid -

I've recently returned to school after 30 years. I have taught comparitive religions in the past. The best tool I've found over the years is "Strongs strongest Concordnance" The Bible itself holds all your answers. The current classes in religion that I'm taking, I consider to be jokes. The last class required 7 books and not a one of them was The Bible. Let your mind ask the questions, but let Your Bible answer them.

It seems to me they go hand in hand. Daily devotionals get their information from the Bible.
