It is creepy. What they're really saying is that they have so little respect for another's point of view that they won't even consider listening to it.

I think your opinions on this simple thing are rather harsh and overly self-involved. If someone says they will pray for you, *you* are not a means for them to do anything. They already believe whatever they believe, and I'm sure they already pray. I'm not sure why you'd have only people who never met you praying for you, either, unless perhaps you're ill. In that case, most families take it as a comfort when individuals or congregations pray in the name of the person who is sick. Whether or not you believe in that religion, you know that there are people out there who care about you enough to want to do what they feel is the best they can to help you (sometimes in situations where other, more down-to-earth options are all played out). Also, unless they're a child, it's not likely that they're praying in pajamas (I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you're not mocking some cultures' religious garments). It shouldn't feel creepy that people care about others enough to want to try to help them or wish better things upon them. Just because it's not the way you'd do it, you shouldn't act as though it's bad or wrong. It's strange that just because you don't believe in what they do, you are scared by and snicker at what they do. Disparaging or pointing horrified fingers at people who are only being kind and genuinely trying to do good for others seems a sad way to go through life. I would just be happy that someone cares, no matter how they care.

For me, personally, no. First, it tells me that that individual is going to what he or she considers the ultimate helper to assist me -- in other words, that person is doing something for me he or she does not have to do. Second, when someone is actually told they are being prayed for they generally feel better.
The fact of the matter too is this: We are constantly being prayed for by other people without our knowledge.

When I'm struggling and have asked for help; when I'm worried about the health of someone dear to me; when I've ASKED for prayers, I welcome them.
When someone is praying for me: to change me into a Christian; to make me "see" that they are correct (when they are not); as a religiously correct and seemingly pious way of saying "skrew you!', then I don't appreciate it at all.

No, I give them my handy list of stuff to pray for. Then two days later I start bugging them about why none of the stuff they prayed for showed up. After that if they offer to pray for me, I just say "No, I think I will get somebody else to try this time, somebody God actually listens to."

no because it usually tells you that the person has good intentions for you...
i dont believe prayers work so i dont mind. also, it sometimes feels unnerving that they think they know better than you, in a way, or they feel you "need" prayer because they are in a better spiritual state than you are.

I didn't bother to read your commentary on a one-sentance question but no, it's never bothered me.

I am not particularly bothered by it; it shows good will. But it also shows a state of delusion, and that saddens me.
