I was wondering if there was a simple free program I can use to dial phone numbers and receive calls on my computer. I want to do so by using my home phone line (connecting the phone line to the computer) I tried Hyperterminal and it worked fine as far as dialling went but receiving calls wasn't that simple...so I'm looking for something simple..thanks..

In other words, I'd like to use line-in and use my computer like I would use a regular phone.

I have tried every trick in the book, but in the end....most of them just suck! you never get good clear sound, nor can call more then 10 min...before cut-off time....just go with skype or another cheap SIP service.....

I think I know what you're talking about: one of those apps that uses your faxmodem card to make and receive phone calls. Unfortunately, I haven't run across anything that does a decent job of receiving phone calls (pickup, route to voicemail on your PC) that doesn't cost something.

I fiddled w/ something from 01Comm.com, but it came packaged w/ my modem 6 yrs ago, and it's a program optimized for WIN98, so it acts funky on XP.

Check Download.com or Tucows.com and see if they still carry that category. Good luck.

while you're utilising a classic modem and not a DSL or ADSL then you could use the dial-up which you utilize to hook up with the internet and then connect the telephone to the out port on the modem.... the only situation with it is which you cant use the internet and the telephone mutually. in case you have a broadband connection from a LAN card then you ought to purchase an exterior modem or examine in case you have an inner modem and use a similar technique. this could fee you yet I dont think of you could concepts that
