Does your room look really tiny, even to you? If so, this article can help you make your room look bigger than it actually is!
Steps
1. Downsize! One way to make your room look bigger than it actually is is to have smaller/less furniture. The changes don't have to be huge; take away some furniture (like a night table) that you don't really use, or, if your bed is a queen-size, downgrade to twin.
2. Use the walls. Putting up a gigantic picture that covers just one wall of your room can make your entire room look larger. For this purpose, outdoor views are best - they make your room look as if it goes on for miles.
3. Place the furniture in your room carefully. Pushing it up against walls, creating a small-to-medium size space in the middle, will give off the illusion that your room is larger (with the bonus of making it look more organized).
4. Keep your room tidy and organized. A cluttered room equals a smaller room. Besides which, only the truly talented can find their stuff in a messy room.
5. Actually use your closet. Many people don't bother using their closets and prefer dressers instead. If you have a smaller dresser, use it only for underclothes and t-shirts; placing the dresser in your closet can maximize space, and you can hang up your jeans in your closet.
6. Keep kitsch to a minimum. Amassing a lot of smaller objects to decorate your room will eventually clutter it up. Instead, stick with a few big objects for room decoration.
7. Get a mirror up on the wall, this will give your room more depth.

Hey There!
I was just browsing around on Yahoo Answers and came across this question of yours.
Light colors will make the room look larger. Also, mirrors, mirrors and more mirrors! IKEA has some very cool mirrors that can fit just about any style.
I also wanted to mention that I’m an IKEA Regional Manager and was informed of a private website at my last regional managers meeting that ended up to be a promotion we’re doing.
This website is giving away several hundred $1,000 IKEA Giftcards for just putting in your zipcode. It’s a marketing campaign they are doing to see what areas of the country people are interested in IKEA!
You can’t go wrong… Just put in your zipcode and get a $1,000 IKEA Giftcard.
Heck, you could even get the FREE Giftcard and sell it on ebay and go buy stuff somewhere else with the money you just made!

A good way to make a room look bigger is less clutter and use furniture that is not too big for your room. Also, to give the illusion of a bigger room, use monotones throughout the room. Use slightly different shades of the same color. Use it for the walls, furniture, curtains and splashes of accessories.

the ceiling needs to be a very light colour cream or off white the walls need to be light also good idea to have long elegant curtains the passage way to the room could also be in the same colouring as the room so that it all flows and there are no abrupt changes keep the floor coverings light also but not too much as harder to keep clean--- plan the changes and organize a step at a time keeping in mind the big picture--be happy with small changes is the most important so go to it and good luck....

portray vertical stripes or staggering floor to ceiling drapes will intensify the peak of the room and make the ceilings seem to be bigger subsequently making the room sense larger. on the different hand, horizontal stripes will make a room seem longer or wider. you additionally can create an visual allure of extra area by using removing as plenty clutter as obtainable as empty area supplies the visual allure that a room is larger as damaging to a room packed with little products. additionally think with regard to the dimensions of your furnishings, no remember if it somewhat is small it's going to make your room seem awkward. share is the biggest. If each and every thing works to jointly (scale smart) you're growing to be to be a balanced room and could then be waiting to create a focal element that has real result.

Ditto what everyone else said (clean lines, eliminate clutter, less furniture - especially small pieces, avoid abrupt color changes and strong/bold patterns) except for the pale colors(yawn...BORing!). But I will add lighting, lighting, lighting! Make sure you have great lighting .. and not just an overhead. Shadowy corners make rooms feel closed in. Make sure all parts of the room are lit up and it will feel more opened up.
