I am a much better cook than my mom. When I first got married, I wasn't that great at cooking the things my husband wanted to eat, but I got a bunch of cookbooks and started practicing.

One thing that helps when you're learning to cook is to taste things as you go along, before they're fully cooked (I don't mean meat or anything else that needs to be cooked). It helps you understand the relationship each spice or seasoning has to the total flavor.

Of course, you might be an excellent cook already and it's just that things you didn't have to cook taste better to you :-)

I think I can cook pretty well (my hubby agrees - and not just for his personal safety! lol), though I hated it as a teenager having to cook tea, I am now well able.

I don't think I've ever considered who is better, its just we often cook different things. Be happy if you enjoy your own cooking. Something cooked by someone else usually tastes better anyway e.g. roast dinner, because you haven't had to do the preparation time in the kitchen! lol

No my mother is the chicken nuggests and smiley faces queen. She never cooks anything that doesnt come out of a freezer except for Christmas dinner. Now her mother (my Nana) was a wonderful cook no one could touch her Sunday roast but now she's 82 and has dementia so she cant cook anymore.

No way, my mum's cooking always reminds me of the sort of food people have to eat in prisons (or what I imagine people eat in prisons). It's so basic and bland. I much prefer my own. Mind you, I still can't make an omlette as nice as my nan's!!

I learned a lot from my mother I doubt if she was the best cook, but she definitely had a few good recipes. I think my grandmother taught me more than anyone else. Good old fashioned recipes which if I try to recreate do not taste the same as they did when I was a child. But it doesn't stop me trying.

Hell no. My Ma was a horrible cook, but I never realized it until I went in the Army. I thought Army food was great. That ought to give you a pretty good idea as just how bad my Ma's cooking was. RIP

Nope. My mother was a terrible cook; I'm pretty good; but got to be that way from experimenting.
