I was on paxil for 7 years and I got off it after a screw up with the pharmacy that took a month to resolve and by that time I had gone through the serotonin withdrawal already. I don't recommend cold turkey either, but by being forced into it by the pharmacy I found that dramamine helped significantly and that the withdrawal lasts about 2 weeks (I was on the maximum dosage).
The best way to get off is to cut your dosage gradually, one week at a time to minimize the serotonin withdrawal.
I will add that I was lucky and have been able to remain free of meds for 2 years now and I attribute that in large part to having gotten off depoprovera a year before the paxil and I believe that the depo had really exacerbated the depression far more than I realized. I still occasionally have episodes, but they are briefer and much milder and I have been able to manage without needing to return to meds, so I consider myself fortunate.
I would, however, restart Paxil in a heartbeat if my symptoms ever returned full force again as it helped me enormously and I keep a prescription handy just in case.

I haven't dealt personally with Paxil withdrawal, but I've certainly heard some horror stories. Also, I'm sorry this has been such a terrible ordeal for you.
Keep in mind that there are several lawsuits against the makers of Paxil for a multitude of reasons, including birth defects, panic and anxiety disorders, and more. You could be entitled to some serious money for what they've put you through.
If you see your doctor, make sure to list off all your symptoms, like:
* Vertigo
* Sharp pain in the head
* Lack of coordination
* Nausea and/or stomach pain
* Flu-like symptoms
* Agitation or anxiety
* Confusion or disorientation
Good luck.

I was on Paxil for 4 years and since i have a addictive personality my doctor wanted me off of them and switch to Prozac (witch I feel better on then the paxil) So he had me tappered off the Paxil and then i was put on the Prozac. Talking to your doctor is the main thin to do an he can talk to you about other medications or therapies.

With any medication like that you should taper it off, not cold turkey.
Ask your doctor how to do it and with what dosages.
