Hi. Im a bit young but love to study about dogs. So first of all, all dogs will urine on the carpet and this can be fixed eisily by house trainig your dog which i strongly recomend. I also live in a small home (apartment) and have been looking for a perfect companion. Along my study i have found that the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is one of the best lap/toy/Fun dog to get. they dont grow pretty big and are real calm. They love to sit on your lap and dont need much exersise! They are also verry cute and cuddly if that is what you are looking for.
Sure a Yorkie is also small and cuddly BUT unless you are looking for a dog that WILL sleep by you BUT at the same time keep you up all night then i wouldn't realy recomend this breed. But hey i supose some people can live with it. You see Yorki's are known to bark alot! Sometimes just out of nowhere. where as Cavaliers are more calm and wont bark a yip! But also take into considering the dogs personality.
So if you are looking for the perfect lap dog, Fun dog, not that much exersise needed dog, and a smart one too...then a Cavalier is right for you!.....hey that rhymed! heehee ;D

Any Spaniel, Cocker Spaniel, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Brittany Spaniel, They are all sweet natured dogs and very friendly. Boston Terriers are good dogs of a small to medium size and very good family dogsor how about a Poodle standard or teacup poodles. Poodles are great, but the smaller you go the more nervous they can be. And you need to have them groomed on a pretty regular basis or for something a little bigger, westie terrier, or hairless chinese crested!! they are so ugly they're cute. A pug is a very hardy, loveable and loyal small dog with few health problems. Chihuahuas are great But they are protective and very territorial. Theres just so many breeds out there you should explore your choices oh and don't for get the mixed breed they can some times make the best all around choice. Please check with your local animal shelters first.

Cockapoo. They are a Cocker Spaniel and Poodle mix. They are relatively small, and very cute breed. Of course with a mix breed each dog will look somewhat different and have different character traits so you will want to do some looking around. Come in a variety of colors. My Cockapoo likes to cuddle a lot and sleeps with my every night and through the morning. In general they aren't an overly active breed but they will play with you--fetch, tug of war, etc, and they can be taught tricks. The great part about them is that since they are part poodle they will not shed. Supposedly all dogs shed somewhat and some poodle mixes can shed more than others but it will be very minimal if any. I have never seen a hair from mine. Whatever you decide, buy from a responsible breeder who knows about problems associated with the breed and has checked them for good health. I don't know where you live so I'm not sure how easy it would be for you to find a Cockapoo breeder. This is just one choice I would like to point out to you, good luck with your pup!

I would suggest looking at a few small breeds to see if one catches your eye. I wash Dogs for a living, and many people have many different dogs they love having as a house companion. Maybe wothrwhile looking at the King Charles Spaniel, or Pomeranians are cute too.

Any dog in the Toy group a Chihuahua, pug, toy poodle, Pomeranian, there are many out there. I have 2 short hair chihuahuas they are wonderful, they are litter trained so I don't need to worry about a mess when i come home my oldest figured out what to do in 2 days and my puppy took more time but she is kind stubborn. Mine love to cuddle up to me at night on the couch watching TV. They think they are big wolfhounds but just 5 pounders with big hearts.

Well, my husband and I have a Rat Terrier that doesn't mind being on a leash. She also LOVES to be near us all the time. Rat Terriers seem to love to sleep under the covers, and they are also easy to housebreak! Another good small dog is a Toy Fox Terrier. They are alot like Rat Terriers, but much smaller.

My aunt has a sheltie (small collie) that's a great dog! Not too big, not teeny tiny, but sociable, loves to be pet, and very cute! She sleeps on my aunt's bed every night by her feet, and as soon as I wake up she gets overly excited since she's my favorite dog and just goes nuts until I pet her! As far as I know about yorkies-- they're small but very loud and bark a lot!

The two best ways to find the right dog - check out your local shelter or go to a dog show and talk to the people who have dogs that you like. You can find a list of scheduled dog shows at www.akc.org under the Events conformation show search.

I like Chihuahuas. They are cold natured, so they sleep under the covers next to me and love to be cuddled. They are also entertaining because they think they are big and macho.
