Couldn't He articulate what He wanted to say without all the drama and story-telling?

I mean, how about saying what you MEAN for a change instead of all the mystery and suspense?

The answer is in the Bible. He spoke in parables so that unbelieves would think it just a neat story and the believers will gain more knowledge of Him. It is for kings to search out a matter. God wants us to know about Him. But He also wants us to search Him out and His ways.

Not a Biblical scholar...just my 2 cents!

Maybe he wanted people to get their own meanings out of the parables. Maybe he thought that it would have more of an effect on people by telling parables. For example, if you tell a child to save their money, they probably won't. If you tell a child a story about when you were a child and your parents told you to save your money, but you didn't, then one day the ice cream man came and all your friends had icecream except for you and you were so sad....which one would the child remember? Which one would encourage the child to save money?

It's the exact same way we use children's story's and poems to teach kids things (3 little pigs, the little engine that could, etc.)

Religion covers up the fact that 99% of Biblical were illiterate. Try to have an intelligent conversation with people who had an I.Q. of 6. Our God concept came from these Yo-Yo's.

Because he was wise. Yes he could've said it in laymens terms but some of the knowledge he was giving out was not meant for those who would mock Him, so he disguised it for those who weren't listening to really learn something. Those who were his followers understood and it is the same today. If you want to mock God you will not understand His word. He has to open your eyes to it.

He spoke in all kinds of different ways, but the early Christians were so mentally challenged the parables are all they retained.
