it seems like i am in the minority for not having one.

You know, i think common sense needs to dictate this one. Are they more socially acceptable than they were in the past? Just by the number of people you see everyday with them, let alone celebs and athletes who we all know dictate the rules of the world, i think that's a pretty easy yes. But in what situation? I have a significant amount of ink and i was aware when i got all of it what i was going to have to do to keep it covered in the workplace. Most places aren't going to hire a highschool teacher who shows up with body modifications ablazing. It's probably a pretty good guess that more often than not, tats are not so acceptable in the average workplace. So it depends on from whom you desire acceptance. Too many people do get tattoos now just to get one, and to get one for some measure of acceptance is as superficial as the group of people who would 'accept you more' with it. But anyone who decides to get tattoos better be ready to deal with issues like workplace acceptance and not complain about having to cover it up in particular situations. Be accountable. Common sense.

I have ten tattoos myself, and am a mom, a professional in a small town in a fairly rural area, as well as involved in PTA, volunteer activities and the ladies auxillary of a fraternal lodge. I feel that I am well liked and accepted where ever I go. In my case, I think its more that this is who I am, and I am comfortable with myself and don't "show off" my tattoos or portray myself as a big, bad momma because I have them. To answer your question, I think that tattooed people are more accepting of those that aren't tattooed than the other way around. I don't think its about whether a person's tattoos are socially acceptible, its about *the person* being socially acceptible.

you aren't a minority for not having one but you wouldn't be an oddball for having one either. i still don't think that as a complete society tattoos are socially acceptable. i think that if my grandparents saw my tattoos on someone they didn't know they would see a delinquent or a rebellious person. (they don't know about my tattoos) it's just the way things used to be and it takes a long time to change perceptions people have.

They are more socially acceptable but it depends on where they are on the body and when you show them (in what situation). Going to a nightclub or the shopping centre is no big deal, but at work or at a job interview it might be different. I don't have a tattoo either and don't plan on getting one. I plan on being the only oldie in the nursing home without a tattoo! Personally I think some look great on certain people and others look tacky. I hate seeing lame tattoos, starsigns, dolphins etc. It's like they just wanted one to get one for the sake of getting one. In my opinion, a tattoo is never classy but it can look interesting and cool.

most people do have tattoos now. Most business's will even hire people with visible tattoos. I have 6, and I've not had that much trouble with them. My piercings usually tend to be more of a problem.

They are socially acceptable in my group of people. strangely enough, if you don't have a tattoo, you can still hang out in my group of people. We don't like narrow minded sheeple hanging around though, so if you are, off you go. Thanks for stopping by.

They're more socially acceptable, but still frowned upon in most professions. I work at Kinko's and I have to keep mine covered. There are always going to be people who think they're stupid or trashy or sending us straight to hell (that's my favourite XD).

Your body is more like God temple He did not put a tattoo on it so why worry/bother to put it rather put a washable tattoo remember a body is not a man-made to do anything in it so rather be happy on what God has done on your body...So a tattoo you can't say is acceptable or not.

not in professional circles, if you get one have it where it can be easily covered, but it depends what you do for a living.
