Kophamer appears to be a German name. There were Kophamers in the U.S. census found in Milwaukee, Wisconisin, Cook County, Illinois and Whiteside County, Illinois. There weren't any records found on Kophamer before the 1870 census. There was also a branch of Kophamer in California who came from a gentleman who was originally in Illinois.
While I was looking for records I found several obits from the Chicago are for Kophamer. One of them was for a man named Leo Schiller. He was married to a Bernice Kophamer.
If you would like to trace your individual line, you may E-mail me privately and I can help you get started.

There was no GENFORUM but mention is made of Kophamer on a Genealogy.com site. There is an email address where a Hubbard woman documents Kophamer. You would have to email to get the information.
Nothing on Ellis Island.
Nothing on Swyrich.com for origin.
