When was the last time the United States was invaded?

There is your answer-- you already have an Army that can do it.

EDIT: And immigration isn't an "invasion" if that's what you are referring to (I don't think it is, but after reading some responses now I'm not too sure). Immigration is not the military's job... if we were invaded by Mexico, the country, not Mexicans, then we would handle it.

Well I'm guessing this is less a military than immigration question.... simply put: The military isn't tasked with Border-control... in fact we are prohibited by law from doing so.

In the late 80's and early 90's, I flew hours and hours each week out of OLF Imperial Beach... we would see illegals crossing the border and then the Tijuana River and then Border State Park... we had a CLEAR view of them, but were proscribed from reporting their movements to the Border Patrol !! The simple act of lighting them up with a spot-light would get us a reprimand.

Posse Comitatus prevents the Military from taking part in law-enforcement... http://www.homelandsecurity.org/journal/articles/Trebilcock.htm Blame it on Congress, the Presidents, and lobbyists. We'd LOVE to do what we COULD

We do, but its stuck in the middle of a Civil War between Al-Qaida and Iran for control of Iraq. We'd be best redeploying our troops to the border so the Minutemen don't have to continue helping out the understaffed Border Patrol. The Border Patrol could also use its wrongfully convicted agents Ramos and Compean back, if only the Neo-Cons actually cared enough about our borders or justice to do anything.

We do have an Army (and other military branches) that is fully capable of protecting our own borders. The problem is with the political leadership which uses our military for much more needless missions.

Yes. It would be great. I would love to live in a country that didn't allow anyone to cross our borders illegally. I would love it if the constitution could be amended to deny citizenship to kids born to illegal immigrants in our country.

It would be great if our country allowed people from other countries in to do work that we dont want to do and sent them back when the work was done.

We have the military. There are two problems, however...

1. Posse Comitatis (sp)

2. The ACLU

Oh we do. The problem is the politicians.
