Note that the rapture was supposed to have happened during the lifetime of Jesus' apostles.

We don't know the day nor the hour, but we are called to wait patiently for the Lord's return. I think it's clear from Scripture that the Rapture will be AFTER the Tribulation but before the wrath of God. No one knows the day or time, but we can know the season. The rapture can happen any day. The only thing that is holding it back is that the fullness of gentiles have not come in. Israel is coming to the only true God Jesus Christ every day.

Until there is a cure for fanatical extremists with delusions of grandeur or until they manage to get a fanatical extremist with delusions of grandeur in a position to start a global war in order to fulfill their own delusions.
