what is emo?

i know the hair style but i dont know the clothing are they like goth or what? well if you can list the clothes and stuff that would be great

the thing is that guys and girls wear the same thing. guys wear pants that are way too tight. their hair always looks like the wind is blowing. it pisses me off because i can't tell whose a girl or guy. it's the new wave that was around in the early 80's. it just became a little darker.

For guys emo clothes would be tight pants, some scream-o band t-shirt, (Hawthorne Heights, for instance) and some chunky skater shoes or just Chuck Taylors..... For girls, black ruffled skirts maybe just a little below knees with a tight t-shirt with some whacky design on it, like rainbows or something colorful, knee high striped socks, those glove-type thingies that you only put your thumb in and they go up to your elbow..... I forget what they're called..... The shoes, I'm not too sure about. Probably black Chucks, though.

i've read all the previous answers and EVERYBODY seems to have a misconception of emo.

emo is firest of all, a subculture with punk roots. so, well, they wear band t-shirts, hoodies, skinny jeans etc. they sometimes sport piercings and tattoos. and they wear really cute sneakers like chuck taylor CONVERSE.

examples of emo bands are fall out boy and panic at the disco.

let me make this clear to everyone once and for all. GOTHS AND EMO KIDS ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT PEOPLE. got that?
