I somewhat agree with Pastor C; however, it was in 1875 that Jesus was supposed to initially return, according to the JW's.
This "prophecy" was stated by Charles Taze Russell, the founder of the WatchTower Society (JW's).
And since that time, as Pastor C stated, the JW's have been reassigning that return date.
Charles Rutherford, the second leader of the JW's stated that Christ would return in 1914. However, that never happened, but the JW's explained that Christ had made an invisible return.
In 1975, MILLIONS of JW's were let down because of the false speculation of Christ's return.
Between 1976 & 1977, over ONE MILLION JW's left that cult due to the lie.
I have a good friend who, in 1975, had done just as she had been instructed ("sell all you own & give it away") by the leaders of the hall to which she was a member.
The letdown of Christ not returning in 1975 was a blessing because it was the start of my friend's withdrawal from the JW's.
Today she and her husband, both now Christians, are chaplains for a few dragstrip racing parks, and God is using them in a GREAT way.

Actually 1948 was more "pivotal" in a Spiritual sense. That is the year that Israel once again became a nation. That date started the time clock ticking for the countdown to the prophetic fulfillment of the end of the age, and the consummation of all things.

it changed from the imperial age to the modern age.

People began to make leaps and bounds forward technologically and socially because of the war and it help lay the foundation for America's presence in global affairs.

it was the beginning of the end of the old Imperial ways, the idea of democracy began to take root even if it would still take another 40 years or so to produce fruit.

Jehovah's Witnesses might say that that's when Jesus returned, but they've been revising the date ever since. Check out the first link below.
