Well yes, you can not generalize .. there are fat people everywhere ... , but eating habits (among other habits) of a nation do influence on the appearance of having more fat people.
The production of fast food, junk food ...as far as I know, started in America, the number of regular consumers is probably larger, therefor a certain effect is visible ... but it took over Europe and other parts of the world, too.
We have a saying in our country : It is not because of what the wolfs dragged , but because of what the teeth chopped.

Food is readily available everywhere. There are so many different drive through other than McDonalds. It's so easy to pick up something to eat from a drive through. Also, resturants are EVERYWHERE serving hearty foods that most likley have a lot of fat and high calories, but the foods taste SO good. Not just foods, but the lifestyle isn't physically active enough.
In this country it is very hard to stay thin and have a healthy lifestyle. But it's not impossible. Overweight Americans just have to work at it harder than other countries.

america has huge portions in restaurant food.... bigger than other countries around the world....
we also eat a lot of processed foods that lose a lot of good nutritional value and have unhealthy stuff in them....
but then again, everything in moderation works for a lot of americans who arent fat.

It's the combined effects of too little physical activity and too much food of the wrong kind.
Our idea of sports is often watching someone else play. We need more participating sports and less snack food.

I think it is the quality of our food. We have so many fast food restraunts and us Americans are always in such a hurry that it makes it convenient

we're lazy and fat.
that's the general stereotype.
our special invention of food is fat food. i mean fast food (and even the hamburger was invented somewhere else, same with french fries -> invented in Belgium).
so we invented macdonalds, burger king, taco bell, etc.
