ok let me make it more clear. I hear people say i want to do mma insted of karate, tea kwon do, judo, boxing , ext. MMA as most people know is mixed martal arts. In the futer will all martal arts be mma. i mean will they all be rolled up into one. I have noticed that more people are geting disintrested in one just grapiling, striking, or point sparing. They want to know how to street fight, the colsest thing to that is mma.

I get the impression that many people here are confusing martial arts with spectator sports.
As long as there are some people who practice a martial art as a path rather than learning it as a way to fight, that martial art will survive.

Well certain martial arts will start to become extinct in next 50 years. Especially those that doesn't competition such as many type of Kung Fu (not San Shou or San Da), Hapkido, Aikido, etc...
As for those that competition, no they will not simply because there's too many people who still do it. It'll be like as soccer suddenly become extnict over 100 years. But martial arts is whole different story. Today more and more people are starting to want to competition and test their skills out so I can see how other styles will end up go out of business unless they somehow come up with a competition and make it popular.

Boxing or Muay Thai... Within 3 months (sometimes faster) you'll be able to hold your own in a fight. No matter what anyone else wants to tell you, no other striking art has as fast a learning curve. For grappling probably BJJ. Like Boxing/Thai Boxing it has an extremely short learning curve. I'd like to say Judo/Sambo as well but the throws take awhile to learn well enough you can make them effective on command. I'm not saying these arts are the best... I'm not getting into that argument here. But they are extrememly effective with a short learning curve.

If they do not clean up their act, well I believe MMA is on the way out
People are getting tired of the violence
10 years ago we thought of Mr.Miyagi as martial way
Now no offense but we have Mr Liddell getting high, and that video was news to me, but I expected it. MMA has had no morales but alot of $$$
Hell they HATE me for speaking my mind in a country that guarntees that right???
I have 3 clips of Thugs coming for me in a FREE country
yet some how some MMA guy will deny me my right????
No way!!!!!!!!
I have yet determined if I will harm some with the Law or give em a way out.

Many martial arts are already extinct. Entire schools of practitioners were wiped out during the Qin Dynasty, and many styles of kung fu were taught only to family members. When the last of those family members died, so did their style of martial arts. As for current martial arts, most will not die. That's the beauty of film, DVD's, and the internet. Information can last as long as someone out there is still interested in it.

only you can prevent this !
the system i study has genuine 60+ generation lineage.
if you study a COMPLETE system you should have 'mma' ( striking, grappling, evasion, groundwork, then at higher levels, internal skills such as breath control) which i consider just a fad or catch phrase.
we dont grapple on the ground , do you really want to be on your back if your attacker has friends?
there are a few quality 'old school' chinese martial arts schools worldwide, you just have to look ;)
some kung fu systems were indeed lost !
mao tried to kill every last master in china , because he was a martial artist himself and knew his history, who overthrew every dynasty in chinese history? martial artists!
luckily some masters escaped to places like taiwan , singapore, and eventually made thier way to CANADA and USA and other countries, so to say they cant be found,or dont exist is erroneous
the truth is out there!

Some of the Filipino fighting arts are becoming extinct. Traditional Kali stick fighting for example, its not even really practiced much anymore. The only way it lives on is through styles like Eskrima and Arnis, which contrary to popular belief, is not traditional kali stick fighting.
So I would have to agree, some of the martial arts are becoming extinct.

ha ha, most REAL martial arts are already extinct. Those so-called martial arts today are a type of "sports" that will be extinct sonner or later. Kids today simply prefer basketball and volleyball to martial arts. Nobody love martial arts anymore.

In the US and sports areas maybe. but not in other areas like Asia and where tradition stands. Some traditional fighting styles like Muay boran are better than modren mma.
Check out Muay Boran in google.
