You can get out of the ARMY up till the time you graduate AIT. It isn't that hard. Until you leave for MEPS you can always get out of it. But if you decide to join for the fun of it, I suggest getting a Military Intelligence job. That is what I do, and it is pretty fun.

Someone is pulling your leg.

You don't sign your enlistment contract at the recruiter's office, you sign it at MEPS. To even get you to MEPS, you have to take the ASVAB and your recruiter has to assemble all of your paperwork and get your police checks and all that. Once at MEPS, you don't sign anything until after you've had a physical and sat down with a career counselor to pick out your job.

No matter what you signed, you are Not in The Military until you have taken the oath.

If this really did happen... just go back to the recruiter and tell him/her that you did this because you were boozed up and you will not take the oath.

I believe until you're sworn in at MEPS you can withdraw your enlistment, if you choose to.

By the way, becoming a Marine was the best decision my son ever made.
