No, you don't eat the fins, only the meat part. Most of the time you can just lift the meat off the bone with a fork. You just eat it more carefully; that why we serve bread with fish in case you swallow or get a bone stuck you can eat the bread to push it down. Cute question : )

Hi,
As with any whole fish there are techniques for making the eating easier. If you can't get it deboned, then try this...
...with a sharp knife slice down the backbone of the fish and slice off the skin and flesh. The fins are not really edible. On catfish, unless the skin is cooked really crispy it is fairly indigestible (though crisped up it tastes fine)
Catfish are a pretty bony type of fish, so are not the easiest of fish to eat, though they taste just fine. Keep using the knife to slide the flesh from the bones and you should be able to enjoy the flesh without the need to spit out bones. Try to keep the skeleton of the fish whole, so you don't get loose bones in your mouth.
Enjoy,

You don't eat the fins, or the bones. It's sort of an acquired skill - you have to learn to flake the meat from the bones. Personally, I don't care for catfish, despite being raised in the south; I just don't like the taste - give me trout any day!

Some people eat the fins but most do not. Traditionally, catfish was friend with the bones in and people ate it with their hands, biting the flesh off the bones.

I always eat fish and usally they're not fillets.Yes I sometimes cook them whole but of course they were cleaned. It isn't that yucky it depends on how ýou cook it.
Trouble eating them, Well just pull the meat off like you do with your chicken.Just be careful tiny bones might come together with the meat as you pull them.
Some people mostly asians eat the whole part of the fish that includes sucking the fish's eyeballs.YUUCKs!

I have always had it served de-boned and I live in the South. Maybe you can ask them to de-bone it for you before they fry it up?
