I always promised my kids that if they made good grades and did not get into trouble they could get their liscense at the earlies time availble to them..
Well, my daughter did wanderful in school and made perfect grades. Got her liscense and her mind exploded on me. She started getting into all kinds of trouble. Wow, that was a bad choice.
My son makes horrible grades and his time is coming soon. In May he could get his permit. But I'm holding my decision firm that he isn't making the grades so he doesn't get priviledges. I'm so glad that I don't have to be responsible for another teenager with a liscense.. I wish my son made better grades but in some way it is a relief.
Your son should not get rewarded for bad behavior... With a liscense he would probably steal your car and go out drinking and could hurt someone badly or kill your best friend...
Could he or you live with that?
Let him know you mean business and by no means will he get his liscense unless he can go through treatment.. But be careful.. they are very cunning creatures.. they can make it look like they are working the program when truely they are living a lie and when you're not around they will do it anyway.
Good Luck...

I had not read your first question but applaud you and your husband for coming together and planning what I think is a loving decision. Your son will probably rebel at the responsibilities you expect of him but he will, as he grows and learns more about himself and the consequences of his drinking, thank you eventually. Stay strong, keep communicating with your husband, keep committed to your son and I hope all goes well. More parents should be like you.

You are doing the right thing. It is far better to get him help and not allow him to get his license until he will be responsible than to have to deal with a drunk driving accident where, god forbid, a fatality is involved. Give your husband a big kiss and tell him you appreciate him seeing the right thing to do.
Good luck!

I was one of the people who answered your earlier question - I said no license till he's 18. Your plan sounds like a good one. Thanks for the feedback. It's rare to get it, but nice to know you've helped someone make a positive decision. Good luck with the pissed off and/or mopey teenage scene you're about to confront.
