Alright. Im sixteen, overweight, and I want to gain muscle mass. I don't eat breakfast, for lunch my choices are limited at school (usually I eat an unsalted soft pretzel), and for dinner I usually eat one serving of whatever my parents cook. I need to know what I need to do to get this diet to work. I plan on working out and weightlifting I just need to know what eating habits must be changed. What should I eat for breakfast? At school my choices are chips, pizza, frozen yogurt, and/or a soft pretzel so which one should I be eating? In addition I will be drinking lots of water but I want to know if it's ok to have milk with dinner. HELP ME!

1. Maybe you should try talking with your dr. and/or your parents about this.

2. Don't skip meals and eat 4-6 small meals a day. Eat a light breakfast, lunch, dinner and it's ok to have snacks, but make sure they are healthy. Pretzels, yogurt, fruit, granola bars, popcorn all are great snacks.

3. Try bringing your lunch. A half a sandwhich and a bowl of soup or salad with light dressing.

4. Don't starve yourself.

5. Don't have unrealistic goals. You're not going to lose 20 lbs in a week or even a month. Try to accomplish small goals. Maybe a pound a week?

Your first mistake is skipping breakfast. That is the most important meal of the day. You need breakfast to get your metabolism going for the day. Even if you have a banana and a bowl of cereal that would be enough. For lunch the healthiest choice would be the yogurt. Also when you get home from school have a light snack like a cup of fruit. When you limit your meals your body thinks that you are starving and it will not burn calories. Also it is ok to have a glass of low fat milk with dinner. Good Luck with your diet.

Are you sure your not worried about dieting so soon being so young? What I would recommend is eatting breakfast for starters you surely have to add exercise. Don't not starve yourself because your body feeds off of the fat that is already stored. Don't eat too late at night and don't eat and go to sleep. Your a young teen and your going to desire the usual junk foods that may be tempting, but try to do yogurt, salads, fruit, and drink plenty of water with each meal. Eat small portions and don't wait until your starving to eat because then you eat more then you need.Eliminate some of the fried foods, sodas, chips cakes, and cookies. Also when you eat any of your meals don't always have bread especially if you already have starches or carbs. Now don't do this cold turkey because you may find yourself cheating!

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, Skipping a meal or two does not help yur metabolism. You should eat no past 30 minutes after you wake up in the morning, since your metabolism is at a fast rate. Try eating a multi grainbar, apiece of fruit, and a glass of low fat or fat-free milk(good for when you are in a hurry). Drink lots of water for example if you weigh 150 you should times it by 2 and thats how much ounces you should drink every day. Take snacks in between meals when you get cravings such as those 100 calorie packs. You have to mix it around and see what you like, take walks at least an hour a day. Dont starve yourself ,if you wait till lunch time to eat, that meal is stored as fat, its okay to eat after 7pm even they say its not , its really what you eat and how much. Good Luck

Breakfast- A small bowl of cereal (it should be healthy: ex. shredded wheat, fruit harvest, special K, etc.)

Lunch- Bring your own! Pack: A sandwich on one slice of wheat bread, cut in half, meat of your choice, but something healthy, like tuna or turkey; fruit; and a healthy snack item like tortilla chips, wheat thins, saltine crackers, soy chips, lowfat snack pretzels, or other healthy snck items. Don't forget water! Drinks have bad stuff in them too!

Midday- If you're hungry between lunch and dinner, that's okay! Try eating a carrot, a peice of fruit, or one of the other foods mentioned above.

Dinner- Eat whatever your parents are serving, but if its high in fat, trans fat, and cholesterol, take a small serving, and have lots of vegetables with it. Make sure to have at least one vegetable serving with every meal.

Dessert- Yes, it is also okay to have a small dessert. Try a small scoop of lowfat ice cream or maybe those 100 calorie pack snack cookies (available at most supermarkets). Just don't eat in excess!

Hope this helped!

for starters you gotta eat breakfast (toast, cereal, fruit) and why don't you take your own lunch to school (healthy sandwich and fruit perhaps) don't be to over-focused on losing weight though- just eat sensibly and add exercise - the weight should just come off without too much trouble
