My exgirlfriend and I are seperated and she still gives her those cups with the lids. I feel she is 3 she can drink out of a regular cup so why give them to her? A kid is a kid they may spill. Clean it up. Isn't it like giving a bottle to a toddler?

Yes 3 is too old. people are bothered about the mess round the house but a child shouldnt be playing while running around with a cup anyway if they want a drink they go to the table.

I wouldn't think badly if I saw a 3 year old with a sippy (pacifier is another story). My daughter is three and hasn't had a true sippy cup in a very long time. But she was also off of the bottle by 11 months and onto sippy's and then transferred to straw cups. That is what we still use now - straw cups. I love them! She uses a regular open cup at home during meals sometimes but for carrying around with her and for on-the-go, we use straw cups. Try using straw cups instead of a regular sippy. Most of them don't leak or spill much at all. I LOVE the Take & Toss type by The First Years! They are inexpensive so if you lose one it is no biggie. I buy the straw ones for my 3 year old and just started buying the sippy ones for my 7 month old so he can start experimenting. Good luck!

I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill.

I'm sure your daughter CAN drink out of a regular cup, but honestly, do you want to be cleaning up all the time? Its a known fact (I have four children) that 3-5 year olds are regular spill makers. Not because they *mean* to, but because they're level of coordination has not yet been perfected.

Really, its not the same as giving a bottle to a toddler. The sippie cup is not going to harm her teeth. It just keeps from harming your carpet, her clothing (think cranberry juice!) and mom's sanity until her coordination is a little more developed. Try to lighten up a little & focus on the really important stuff!

I see a lot of toddlers with sippy cups. Recommend giving the 3year old water in a cup if she is worried about spills. That way the girl can learn how to use a real cup but mommy doesn't have to worry about a mess. That is how I taught my son how to use a cup. It also got him to drink more water.

I give my 4-yr-old a tippy cup when he is playing or when in the car, then I don't have to clean up as many spills. Other than that, both my 4-yr-old and my 2-yr-old drink from regular cups at the table.

nope its not like giving her a bottle unless the child sleeps with it. Kids spill and knock over cups it is just easier to give them drinks in a sippie cup.

If it bothers you give her a regular glass when she is with you. Three is a perfectly normal age to use the sippie cup.

Not really.
My son just turned 3 and he uses a sippy cup. Sometimes its just easier but he does use a regular cup sometimes. Dont worry. We adults use pop up tops on water, straws, etc...same diff! Think of it that way.
No rush for this really, your daughter will use one soon enough.

Why does it bother you so much??? They are much easier to travel with, the kid can carry it w/ them when they play and etc.... Are you concerned about her teeth? Take her to a dentist? Try a cup with a straw but they carry more germs if you reuse the straw.
Get a water bottle instead.
But isn't that giving grown men a bottle too.
