Baby shampoo is fine, just be sure to warm the house so he doesn't get a chill..Bathe him quickly, and dry him quickly.
be especially careful keep water out of his ears..If you have cotton balls to put in his ears, that would be safest.

You can also give him a good bath using men's shaving foam.. Just rub the foam well into his coat, and wipe dry with towels.
I used to do that to my Doberman puppies...Sure makes them smell sweet! and leaves the coat soft.

Baby shampoo is fine for this time. It's more gentle than regular dog shampoo.
However, don't use it all the time, as human skin and dog skin have different pH.
I like to use either the bathroom or kitchen sink for puppies or kittens. It's smaller and feels safer to them, plus it's better on your back than the bathtub! Just fill it a couple of inches deep with warm to tepid water. It should feel slightly cooler than the inside of your wrist. It is better for the water to be a little too cool than too hot. Have the water ready, along with the shampoo, a washcloth, and some towels. It would be nice to have a heater available as well, unless your house is very warm.
Get the puppy and gently set him in the water. Take a washcloth and wet it, then wipe the puppy all over with the wet cloth. Take just a small amount of shampoo and rub it between your hands, then gently rub your hands over the pup. Rinse thoroughly, being sure not to get any water in his ears, eyes, or nose. You can use the cloth on his face but wring it out first. Then dry him off thoroughly. Be sure to praise him the whole time and give him a yummy treat when you're done. Make the whole bath as quick as you can.
Whenever I bring a new puppy or kitten home, I bathe them and trim their nails, clean their ears, or at least go through the motions, at least every other week, even once a week. If you do that for the first couple of months, they will get used to it very quickly!
And if you are worried about drying out their coat/skin, just use a little warm water and skip the shampoo. The frequency isn't so much about cleanliness, but just getting them used to the routine so that when you have a 100-lb mature dog, he'll just stand there and not care what you do to him because he knows it's just part of life and he trusts you. I bathe my 4 cats and 3 dogs once a month, and I don't have too much trouble. (It will not dry out their coat/skin if you use the proper shampoo! I've never had a problem with dry coat/skin. That has much more to do with what you feed them than with how often you bathe!)

Baby shampoo is drying to a puppies hair. You will have to run a tepid to cool bath. You do like you do for a baby and test the water on the inside of your arm. It is best to have the water cool - not cold. I believe the flea shampoo is say 12 weeks or older on the bottle? You could use a nice hair shampoo combined with a conditioner, or something you consider gentle on your hair. Make sure you have a cup and a rag. Close the bathroom door so the puppy can't run away. Put the puppy in the tub and use the cup to wet him all over - except on his face or eyes or ears. Lather him up with soap. Use the cup to rinse. Be gentle with the dog and tell him he is a good boy for holding still. If he is jumping firmly tell him to get down. Tell him he is good and it will be over soon. Use the rag to gently rub soap on the top of his head and in the hard to reach areas such as his jowls. Rinse the rag and use the rag to gently rinse any excess soap from the jowls and head of the puppy. When the puppy is well rinsed off, pick him up out of the tub and wrap old towels around him and dry him off. Make sure he is good and dry before you let him go as he will shake all over you and rub all over your rug, while running all over the house!!!!

Yes, its safe to give him a bath at this age. I just got a my 8 wk old great pyrenees last week and she was covered in feces and the only dog shampoo I had was a medicated prescription shampoo so I just used johnson's baby shampoo and she's fine. If you already have dog shampoo, check the label and see what age it recommends for use. You may be able to use that.

YAY!! Congrats! you wont be sorry on your new puppy! I was raised with dobes, ever since i was born, and they are just the best doggies ever! lol!

But yes, Back to my point, The best is Baby shampoo bc I use that for my dobermans, big and small. It makes them smell good, gives them a good after smell so you wont smell wet dog after you give him his bath, and makes their skin and fur very soft. Dobermans have pretty hard, short hair, so it gives it some shine and silkiness. I wouldnt use anything else. Also, you can use Doggie colonge you can buy at a pet store, if you want to keep him smelling like a basket of roses =] I do with my dobes. They smell like walking air fresheners! and also, heres a tip!-Dobes do shed, but very little. So what you need to get is a rubber brush, and every morning, after you take him outside to potty, give him a brush down outside for about 2-3 mintues (even less if your good at it), then wipe witha wet paper towel so it gets all the loos hair.

Well hope i helped, and Go ahead and save my e=mail if you EVER need me for anything, I know tons and tons on Dobermans. I've had many. I could help from everything from health, to training. =]

Congratulations!!!!!! Dog shampoo would be fine to use and so would baby shampoo. Just be sure he is dried pretty good if you are living in a cold climate. This is a perfect age to introduce your new Dobie to baths. That way he will get use to them and hopefully enjoy getting them before he is full grown.

Thats ok just this once, just make sure that you thoroughly rinse it out of his fur. He should be small enough to put in laundry tub with warm water or maybe the shower. I hope that you enjoy him. (I love Dobes).
